Kareem Abdul Jabbar on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock

With plethora of superstars commenting upon Will Smith ‘slap of the century’ at the Oscars 2022, NBA Legend Kareem Abdul Jabbar is surely having none of it. On one hand, where the likes of Damian Lillard completely supported the actions of the Best Actor, this Laker legend has completely blasted the veteran actor for slapping the life out of Chris Rock.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were justified in feeling the anger they did (given the seriousness of the situation and condition). But, not only could the couple have simply shouted back with verbal messages of their own, but the latter is also strong enough to defend herself. Furthermore, slapping your companion with such venom on National and Global Television, was surely going way beyond imagination and integrity.

On the same lines, Kareem Abdul Jabbar lashed onto the veteran actor and surely has all intentions of making him realise about his deed.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar said as quoted by Kareem.Substack.com, “(Will) Smith’s slap was also a slap to women. If Rock had physically attacked Pinkett Smith, Smith’s intervention would have been welcome. Or if he’d remained in his seat and yelled his post-slap threat, that would have been unnecessary, but understandable. But by hitting Rock, he announced that his wife was incapable of defending herself—against words. From everything I’d seen of Pinkett Smith over the years, she’s a very capable, tough, smart woman who can single-handedly take on a lame joke at the Academy Awards show.”

Do you agree with the NBA Hall of Famer? Or perhaps his opinion is as harsh as Smith slapping the life out of Rock on National and Global network?
