In Short
  • Nikola Jokic faced criticism for flopping during the Denver Nuggets' 128-125 victory over the Utah Jazz.
  • The Nuggets have struggled recently, winning only five of their last 13 games and sitting fifth in the Western Conference.
  • Jokic recorded a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Jamal Murray scored a game-high 45 points.

Nikola Jokic was in the spotlight once again due to his flopping. Jokic has often been labeled as a “flopper” and has also been fined before for his theatrics. There were several antics from the Joker on Monday night against the Utah Jazz. However, in the end, the Denver Nuggets registered a closely fought 128-125 victory over the Jazz at Salt Lake City.

The Nuggets have struggled for form since the beginning of February. Monday’s victory over the Jazz was just their fifth win in their last 13 games, and they have dropped to fifth place in the Western Conference standings with a 38-24 record. Meanwhile, the Jazz suffered their sixth loss in a row and find themselves at 14th place in the standings as their record dropped to 18-43 for the season.

While Nikola Jokic insisted that the championship is the goal for the season, it looked like the Nuggets may not be serious contenders to come out of the West. They suffered consecutive losses to Western Conference contenders in the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Against a shorthanded Jazz, Jokic and Jamal Murray put in impressive performances. The Serbian recorded another double-double as he posted 22 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. Murray led the scorers with a game-high 45 points to go along with eight assists.

After a heated brawl with Lu Dort on Friday night, Jokic caught everyone’s eyes not for his game but because of his constant selling of fouls. It reached a point where the Jazz announcers went off on the three-time MVP for his antics.

This is the Jokic antics right here. He’s complaining to the refs, for what? Don’t complain, just play. I don’t know why the officials fall for that. And guess who ends up on the floor again… Jokic. There’s a sniper in the building.

While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic are often criticized for flopping, Jokic deserves his critics as well. This is not the first time he has been called out for his flopping. A few years ago, the Joker was fined by the NBA for his antics, and it may not be long before it happens again.

Flopping has been an issue in the NBA for a while now. The NBA has faced some criticism for the lack of consistency in foul calling by the referees. Hence, it is not surprising to see players resort to such actions to get calls in their favor.

Following his antics on Monday night, NBA fans were quick to react and make their feelings known across social media.

Most of the fans were clearly left frustrated with Jokic’s antics. While there is no doubt that he is a highly skilled center, these antics often tarnish the greatness he puts in night in and night out.

While Jokic has had his fair share of critics, he is still one of, if not the best, player in the world. He remains a strong contender for league MVP this season, an award Jaylen Brown has claimed that players need to “flop” to get their hands on.

Following their loss, Jazz head coach Will Hardy spoke about guarding Jokic and how big of a challenge it is.

The win over the Jazz marked Jokic’s 322nd career 20/10/5 game, pulling him level with Kareem-Abdul Jabbar. The Captain needed 1,560 games to set that bar. Jokic has reached the same summit in just 792 games.
