“You Better have your damn shoes laced up”: former NBA Champion Kendrick Perkins warns Memphis Grizzlies playoff opponents
Memphis Grizzlies and Kendrick Perkins
Kendrick Perkins varies in quality on floor, form, and home-court advantage Memphis Grizzlies have in the playoffs. Warns opponents to be ready for the tough games.
The former big man in the NBA has sided with the young and talented team in the west. As per Kendrick Perkins, Memphis Grizzlies will be the team to watch in the 2022 postseason. 2008 NBA Champion Perkins is still connected to Basketball as he does game analysis and predictions for the season. While talking about the potential threat, Perkins said, “I’m keep trying to tell y’all that when you touch down in Memphis you better have your damn boots laced up! Them young boys got old Souls and they ready for all the smoke this postseason! Carry the hell on…”
Prediction is not vague, and neither is the threat foreseen. The Grizzlies team has been in terrific form and will see to it that their current form and chance won’t be wasted. They played in the playoffs last season after missing the previous 3 seasons. Now with the momentum on their side, the young guns will look to better their records in the postseason.
Ja Morant, Dillion Brooks, and Desmond banes have been prolific in the scoring department, while experienced Steven Adams provided them some steel in defense.
Red Hot Memphis Grizzlies ready for the Playoffs
No one predicted the rise of the Memphis side, at least to the 2nd position in the Western Conference. Historically very competitive conference has many strong teams with the likes of Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles duos, and Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets.
But Grizzlies defies all the odds and played the best ball game under Taylor Jenkins. The team had no Mega-star to bank on, but team efforts and the steep rise of youngster Ja Morant carried the team in the lengthy 82-games regular season. They even had the best winning streak in the league, winning 11 games in a row from 26th December 2021 to 14th Jan 2022.
They even had a good run in March, where they won 7 games in a row, beating some tough teams. These runs and consistent performances handed them the 2nd position in the West, where they can enjoy home-court advantage for most of the playoff games.
How far can the Memphis Grizzlies team go in the postseasons?
If we look at the team’s record, the Grizzlies are one of the best-performing teams in the West. They have a 36-16 record against conference rivals, while even an impressive 30-10 record at home. The Home Court advantage would come in handy in the postseason, with cheering support behind the team.
For the 1st round, match-up Grizzlies will be waiting for the play-in winner between LA Clippers and Minnesota Timberwolves. Grizzlies have swept the 4-0 season series against the Clippers, but the return of star players could make the faceoff more interesting. Minnesota-based team has shown resistance to the Grizzlies’ emphatic performances, leveling the four-game season series 2-2.
Memphis has a 3-1 record in the regular season against divisional competitor strong Nuggets team. The team also has the upper hand playing against the Dubs, which statistically puts them in the Conference finals. Grizzlies have a 2-1 record against league leader Phoenix Suns, a possible opponent in the conference finals.
Playoffs are certainly more different than the regular season games, with daunting 7-game series against tough opponents, but young stars have the hunger to bring glory days to the city. They have never won Conference finals before and were eliminated in the 1st round last time.
A talented, motivated team will clearly be the team to watch in the playoffs this time as they can cause many “Upsets” on their way to the conference finals.
