Malik Monk, the Lakers’ shooting guard has taken over the team due to his performances and is being hailed as the sole warrior in the entire Lakers team who dared to stand up against the Pelicans’ offense. The least that we can say at this point is that Monk took flight and it seemed as if he would take down the rivals’ entire offense as they intended to steal the ball and go for a massive dunk with a lob pass.
Russel Westbrook who messed up a pass as he didn’t seem very enthusiastic about playing the match was probably saved by Malik Monk who was the lone player at the Lakers’ end and defended their ground with a fantastic display of grit.
The Lakers suffered a massive loss to the rival team, New Orleans Pelicans who managed to cruise past the LA natives in their home ground as they took the world by storm with a massive 28-point victory over the home team. The Lakers who haven’t left anyone with any sort of hope in them have now added another terrible loss to their already terrible record which doesn’t seem to be getting any better as the team struggles with losses, injuries and controversies.
Despite the likes of players like LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony and Malik Monk, the team has struggled since the beginning of the year and hasn’t been able to make any difference in their performances which seem to be going downhill at this point, with players losing any sort of hope or motivation if it ever existed. The team which now stands with a record of 27 wins and 33 losses to its name at the 9th position in the Western Conference has further narrowed down its chances of getting into the playoffs.
Let us now take a closer look at this sequence where Malik Monk became the sole savior of the Los Angeles Lakers against the New Orleans Pelicans, who eventually destroyed the team in the score sheet.
Malik Monk takes flight, produces best defensive play
Malik Monk didn’t hold back his efforts in going all out against the New Orleans Pelicans who decided that they would not leave any opportunity to go after the Lakers as they turned the play over by stealing the ball form the Lakers’ Russell Westbrook who didn’t seem very enthusiastic at the moment and decided to go for a massive offensive play.
But with all this going down, Malik Monk decided that he would take the L at that point in time and turned the heat up as he ran backwards having an eye on two of the Pelicans’ players who passed the ball to each other in order to reach the Lakers’ side as they stole the ball after a slumpy pass from Westbrook.

Malik Monk kept running backwards till the time he figured out that the ball would be lobbed at the very end moment which is when he turned around and traced the exact point at which the Pelicans’ player would initiate an alley-oop. As soon as the player lobbed the ball towards the rim for an alley-oop, Monk took flight and snatched the ball mid-air. Monk came down crashing but also threw the ball at the Pelicans’ player who could do nothing but watch as it all went down, and eventually, the Lakers got the possession due to Monk’s efforts.
Malik Monk who took the responsibility of the Lakers’ entire defense on his shoulder at that point definitely deserves a better team, a team which wont give up on plays that easily even when they struggle in the points table. “Mr. Steal your lob” Malik Monk needs more respect put on his name after such an outstanding effort and his fellow teammates should learn from him in order to not give up mid-way!
