In spite of the Los Angeles Lakers having their worst season with LeBron James, he has been astonishing as an individual talent. The team has the worst odds of making it to the playoffs through the play-in tournament especially after succumbing to the worst team in the entire league at the moment. The Lakers have not been successful since the commencement of the second half of the regular season going 6-14 post all-star weekend. It seems as if nothing has panned out the way the players have hoped for.
The LA Lakers are at high risk of being kicked out of play-in contention as the New Orleans Pelicans trail behind 2.5 wins with 17 games left to be played in the regular season. Not too far off is the Portland Trail Blazers who also has the potential of passing by the Lakers if things go well. The Lakers are currently the 9th seed in the Western Conference with 28 wins and 37 losses. With LeBron having some of his best games ever, will his effort be worth it in the end?
Skip Bayless says LeBron James’ triple-doubles this season are very misleading
In a very underwhelming battle, LeBron James recorded a triple-double of 23 points,14 rebounds, 12 assists shooting 9-26 from the field, and one “garbage time” three-pointer on 9 attempts. But as far as the “flaws” Skip Bayless considers it invalid as the Lakers went on to lose horribly to the Houston Rockets. “Just when I think they’ve hit rock bottom, they find a new low. This was as overrated and misleading a triple-double as you will ever see. I don’t love the stat of triple-double because it does not tell the tale of what happened in the game.”
Bayless highlighted an important stat that shows the true story of the game as LeBron James had the worst plus-minus among all the players with -17. Along with this, he had an awful night in shooting the ball including a very controversial pass to end the game, which ultimately failed. “He’s got the crazy ‘hot’ gene in him but it only manifests every three weeks or so,” said Bayless criticizing Le’King for his low consistency rate. Unlike the Rockets game, LeBron was phenomenal in shooting the ball against Golden State going 19 of 31 from the field including 6 three-pointers.
Bayless had also spoken about LeBron’s strengths in playing “bully ball” saying he is the best at it and that he does not trust himself while shooting as he knows his consistency. “Last night was really the first time that I think LeBron’s knee bothered him,” said Shannon Sharpe to which Skip had hesitantly agreed. LeBron has been dealing with injuries a lot more often ever since he crossed the age of 35 and even more this season at 37. Bron had missed a good sum on games at the beginning of the season due to various injuries of the abdomen, ankle, and now most recently his knee. He had not appeared for six games since the start of February.
Moving ahead as the Lakers face the Washington Wizards, the NBA veteran had been listed as questionable. The player has been experiencing soreness of the left knee with a swelling. This may be because the Lakers have been overusing the King who ranks third in the league in minutes per game averaging 37 minutes. The Lakers certainly realize they desperately need him to close out the season since LeBron has been listed questionable for multiple games since the beginning of his soreness.
