“You take away their free throws and neither guy would be top 10 in scoring” Ty Lue criticises Joel Embiid and James Harden’s heavy reliance on free throws

“You take away their free throws and neither guy would be top 10 in scoring” Ty Lue criticises Joel Embiid and James Harden’s heavy reliance on free throws

Tyron Lue

Ty Lue, the LA Clippers’ head coach doesn’t seem to be having a very good time dealing with the Philadelphia 76ers and the team that they have managed to put up through one of the most dramatic trades in the history of the NBA. James Harden’s addition to the Philadelphia 76ers squad which already had Joel Embiid has resulted given them the best results any trade could every possibly give, specially keeping in mind the fact that Ben Simmons completely gave up on playing for the team, and his exchange with any player would definitely be beneficial.

James Harden’s addition to the 76ers’ squad has resulted in the team making one of the best offensive line-ups in the recent history, and has made them the best team post the All-Star break. The team’s performance has seen dramatic changes since the Ben Simmons trade which resulted in them acquiring Harden, and has only gone up, granting them the 2nd position in the Eastern Conference table, increasing their chances of getting a shot at the NBA Championship. The duo of Embiid and Harden has created so many problems for other teams that it now seems unfair, it seems unfair that their rivals have to go against such strong forces.

Ty Lue is one such rival who coaches the Los Angeles Clippers, and has taken a big L against the 76ers, forcing him to say things about Harden and Embiid that don’t sit well with a lot many people. Harden who had been showing interest in playing alongside Embiid throughout the year finally had his wish granted, and has the man proven his point! With his addition to the squad, there is only one way up for the 76ers, and that doesn’t sit very well with the other teams, especially the Clippers.

After the Clippers’ loss to the 76ers, coach Lue stepped up and pointed out that Embiid and Harden were only feeding off of the free-throws, which have given them both a very high position in this season’s scoring list, and they had nothing else other than that. Let us take a closer look at what coach Lue had to say.

Ty Lue fires shots at Joel Embiid and James Harden for being nothing other than free-throw shooters

The Los Angeles Clippers took a massive L after their 25-point loss to the Philadelphia 76ers being led by James Harden and Joel Embiid, who have recently shown a lot of advantage over any other duo or trio in the league. Coach Lue had to face the wrath of both of these players who according to him thrive on free-throws, and that is something that doesn’t sit very well with him. Coach Lue gave stats which seemed to be proving his point, but there were also stats presented which showed that it wasn’t just the free-throws, but a lot more than that!

Harden put up 29 points and Embiid put up 27 points in the 76ers effort to take the dub against the Clippers, and Ty Lue had enough of that. Harden who is at the #3rd position in the league in shooting free throws at 8.4 free throw attempts per game and Embiid who is at the #1st position with 11.8 free throw attempts per game are apparently the only reasons as to why the Clippers and these players individually have had this success in the league.

The problem that the rest of the league has with this duo is that they expected no chemistry to exist between these players, who had very individual and isolated style of playing, but they ended up proving everyone wrong and made things work for themselves.

James Harden and Joel Embiid

Harden and Embiid are also +89 in 295 minutes together, and have the following ratings:

-122.5 offensive rating

-105.7 defensive rating

-16.9 net rating

-63.2 TS%

All four of which would grant them the 1st position in the league in any criterion. Apparently coach Lue is just fed up of taking such Ls and is therefore giving excuses in order to downplay the achievements of this 76ers’ power duo. What he fails to understand or doesn’t want to understand is that it isn’t just the free-throws.
