The first match of Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells 2025 left viewers with one question—what does the new tattoo on the Spaniard’s arm mean? On his right arm, at the elbow level, the date ’23-4-25′ is etched in black ink.
For a while, social media speculated that this could be the definitive date of the premiere of his Netflix documentary. Netflix Espana has now confirmed this fact across its social media handles, with the tattoo alluding to the release date of the 21-year-old’s documentary, Carlos Alcaraz: My Way.
Tattoos hold a special place in Alcaraz’s life. To commemorate his maiden Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open, he got the date of this special achievement tattooed near his right elbow. He also added the letters “CCC”, in a reference to his grandfather’s motto, “cabeza, corazon, cojones” (head, heart, balls). With this triumph, Alcaraz also became the youngest man to achieve World No. 1 ranking in tennis.
Alcaraz won his next Grand Slam title at Wimbledon the following year and added another tattoo to mark the occasion. He got the date of his victory along with a strawberry etched on his right ankle. In 2024, when he won his first Roland Garros title, Alcaraz got the iconic Eiffel Tower inked on his left ankle.
Carlos Alcaraz’s performance at the Indian Wells
Carlos Alcaraz is bidding for a three-peat at Indian Wells, a feat that only Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have accomplished so far. Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev on both previous occasions to clinch his Indian Wells title.

Alcaraz began his title defense with an opening-round victory against Quentin Halys with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-2. He finished with seven aces and saved the only break point he faced, securing the win in 67 minutes.
Alcaraz will face Denis Shapovalov in the Round of 32. This will mark their second meeting on the court, with the Spaniard winning their first and only encounter.
Alcaraz has had a fairly good season so far, with one title to his name at the Rotterdam Open. This victory marked his first indoor title. He also played at the Australian Open and Qatar Open this year, making it to the quarterfinals of both tournaments.
