World No. 1 Nelly Korda proved why she is indeed the best women’s golfer at the moment. The American international clinched a historic seventh victory of the 2024 season following her triumph at The ANNIKA.

This was her third victory at the Pelican Golf Club in four years. The event, which is now named after former LPGA star Annika Sorenstam, saw Korda master a comeback in the final round to take home the title.

The LPGA Player of the Year later exploded to life in the final nine holes. She would fire five consecutive birdies from Hole 11 to 15, which saw her score go from 9-under to 14-under. She ended up shooting 30 on the back nine and finished the day 3-under 67.

This performance saw her eventually finish the event 3 strokes ahead of runners-up Weiwei Zhang, Jin Hee Im, and Charley Hull, who all finished with a score of 11-under for the tournament.

Korda is now the first LPGA golfer since Yani Tseng in 2011 to win seven times in a single season. She is also the first American golfer since Beth Daniel (1990) to achieve this historic feat. Earlier this year, she equaled a unique record of Tiger Woods with five successive wins following her victory at the Chevron Championship.

Nelly Korda happy to play and win close to home at The ANNIKA

In the post-round conference, the 26-year-old pointed out that this fact was one of the reasons she felt “comfortable” during the event despite finding herself behind.

It’s so nice to play in front of friends and family so close to home. I think that’s what makes me so comfortable out here. I didn’t start the day the way I wanted to, but it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. To have that run that I did on those five holes, I kept myself in it all day. I didn’t make big mistakes but couldn’t get really anything going. To go on that run that I did feels really nice.

Korda also received a surprise as her younger brother, Sebastian drove all the way around to witness her achieve a piece of history. She later claimed that it was “nice” to have him by her side.

I didn’t know (Sebastian) was there on the last three. I saw him on 18 when I made that last putt. Never won in front of him, but family is so important to me. It’s not that close from my parents’ house, hour and 40. For him to drive an hour 40 with three holes remaining, one, he was very confident in me, and two, really nice to have his support.
