Netflix recently unveiled the trailer for its upcoming docuseries on Vince McMahon, titled ‘Mr. McMahon‘, to be released on September 25th. It is unclear how much creative control the 79-year-old and WWE had over the direction of the series. However, based on the latest reports, it is likely that the company and its former chairman are unhappy with the direction that Netflix has taken.

According to Puck News, McMahon was not happy with the direction of the documentary after seeing early footage. He wanted to shut down the project and tried to buy back the rights for the docuseries from Netflix. However, he was unsuccessful in doing so. Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel was also concerned about how the streaming media company would portray Vinnie Mac’s on-screen character and alter-ego in the documentary.

McMahon signed off on the series long before he stepped down from WWE. At the time, both his hush money scandals and the Janel Grant scandal were unknown to the public. Director Chris Martin had already finished the project before Vinnie Mac’s retirement in 2022. The documentary was then later expanded to factor in his 2023 return, leading to WWE being sold to Endeavor.

The recently released trailer for Mr. McMahon also does not give much clarity about the contents of the docuseries. Netflix may focus solely on his role in building the WWE empire. Alternatively, the series could delve into more controversial aspects of his life.

Janel Grant’s lawyers respond to the statements made by Vince McMahon about Netflix’s Mr. McMahon docuseries

After being unable to shut down the project, Vince McMahon recently broke his silence on the upcoming documentary. He accused the filmmakers of spreading a false narrative about him. Janel Grant’s team was not going to sit quietly and swiftly respond to these claims made by the 1999 Royal Rumble Winner.

Ann Callis, Grant’s attorney, released a public statement saying that Vince McMahon had emotionally, physically, and sexually abused her client for more than two years. Calling this behavior an affair would simply be trying to underplay the situation. Although the plaintiff had not seen the docuseries in advance, they hoped that it brought to light the alleged heinous crimes done by the Genetic Jackhammer.

Calling his horrific and criminal behavior “an affair” is delusional and nothing more than a sad attempt to save his shredded reputation. Although Ms. Grant has not seen the “Mr. McMahon” docuseries, we hope it shines a bright light on his abhorrent and criminal actions by accurately portraying the realities of his abusive and exploitative behavior.

The attorney asserted that Janel Grant would no longer be silenced by the 79-year-old. Her story, no matter how troubling and painful, will be one that helps other abuse survivors voice out their experiences as well. She was adamant that they would hold McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE accountable for their actions.
