The name Brett Favre brings up two different memories in the minds of football fans. On one hand, he was one of the best ever to play the game, and rightfully is in the Hall of Fame. But now, the fame surrounding him is mostly due to his actions since retiring from that legendary NFL career.

The 55-year-old was diagnosed with avascular necrosis at the start of his career with the Green Bay Packers. That disease ended the career of another star player, Bo Jackson. But Favre overcame that to shine over 16 seasons with the Packers.

Three NFL MVPs and a Super Bowl followed, and the former second-round pick became a footballing legend. For someone who overcame adversity to become one of the best ever, it should have been a humbling experience.

On the contrary, Favre’s legacy started taking a hit when it was revealed that he had allegedly sent inappropriate messages to New York Jets “Gameday host” Jenn Sterger. He was never found guilty, but apparently, his voice messages are still with Sterger.

She revealed a part of one of those voice messages in a trailer for Netflix’s upcoming documentary, ‘Untold: The Fall of Favre’. The documentary also looks into the Mississippi welfare scandal, where Favre was alleged to have received payments for speaking events he did not participate in.

With Netflix using its plethora of resources to dive into the scandals, it could place Brett Favre’s legacy at risk, even with conservatives who believe he has done nothing wrong. Football fans, however, are waiting to see how Netflix showcases what really went down.

Fans waiting to watch Brett Favre’s Netflix documentary

Football fans would have been happy to watch a documentary promoting Brett Favre‘s football career. But this documentary will showcase his questionable actions during and after his life in the NFL. Former players such as Michael Vick, coaches, and personnel were showcased in the trailer.

This has excited fans as they believe the truth about the Mississippi native will come out. They want to know how he is still avoiding jail time for the mistakes he made. Fans have marked a reminder for May 20th, the day the documentary will drop. They shared their excitement on social media, examples of which are below.

The NFL had once ruled that they had no proof that Brett Favre had indeed sent those explicit messages to Jenn Sterger. The courts in Mississippi are still waiting to complete the investigation on the Welfare Scandal. Even if those factors are out in the open, this documentary could further damage his reputation.

Could Favre silence Netflix with a lawsuit?

Ever since Brett Favre’s Mississippi Welfare Fund scandal came out, two of his loudest critics were Pat McAfee and Shannon Sharpe. The former Packer and Jets star tried to counter them with defamation lawsuits, only to be thrown out of court.

He has tried to bring forth other lawsuits in the hope that it will stop them from talking about it. But in the case of Netflix, it might not be that easy. The nearly $500 billion streaming giant has an army of top legal experts who might have already read through all the documentation they have at hand.

That would mean that they have the counterarguments ready if Favre tries to sue them. If courts have thrown his lawsuits against McAfee and Sharpe out, any moves against Netflix might fall flat on his face. If anything, he and his family will likely have to bear this situation.

The alternative option is to stay quiet about this. Favre and his family have avoided responding to fan taunts concerning either of his scandals. His PR team might have advised him to stay put and avoid getting into an argument. Maybe he could do the same when this documentary comes out.
