Alexei Popyrin has continued his impressive form at the Paris Masters by beating Daniil Medvedev in the Round of 32. The victory was the Australian star’s sixth Top 10 win of the year. However, the on-court action was once again hampered due to a wrong call by a match official.
Popyrin has been at his best game since the North American hard court swing. He claimed his first Masters 1000 title in Canada after defeating Andrey Rublev in the final.
Popyrin even earned his first win against Novak Djokovic at the US Open. Leading up to the Paris Masters, however, the 25-year-old was struggling with game rhythm, having won just one match in his last three tournaments.
He managed to find his rhythm against Medvedev, which gave him the much-needed victory. Popyrin began the the match well, leading 4-1 before the Russian began to play more aggressively.
Medvedev double-faulted after tying the score to give Popyrin the match point. He got better in the second set, giving the Australian no chance and pushing the match to a decider. In the third set, both players upped their game, but things got spicy after Medvedev recovered to tie the score 4-4.
Then Popyrin, serving to save a breakpoint, hit a lob that clipped the side of the line, which was called out by the line judge. But the chair umpire said he could not change the call and said that the point would be replayed, which did not sit well with Popyrin.

But, Popyrin recovered quickly and won the replay with a superb forehand volleyball. He rode the momentum and won the match 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4) in two hours and 33 minutes. It was his first victory against Medvedev, after losing three of their previous meetings.
Fans on social media slammed the umpire for his “terrible call” in Alexei Popyrin’s victory over Daniil Medvedev
Fans on social media slammed the chair umpire for deciding to go with the line judge’s call despite knowing that it was wrong. Poor officiating decisions in the ATP have become a norm in recent weeks. It was a constant issue at the recently-concluded Shanghai Masters as well.
Alexei Popyrin managed to overcome the issue, even though he was furious with the umpire. He did well to recover quickly and win the deciding set against Daniil Medvedev. Fans have since taken to social media to slam the umpire for his officiating.

It's only human that line judges and umpires made mistakes.

It's like an unforced or forced error that players made.
Yeah, I understand the impact on the match is huge. But still.
What a joke?? The ball are In

The whole thing was that Meddy continued to play the point and Pop ended it with the open court the line judges call in no way impeded Daniil's play at the ball so the point should have been awarded to Pop rather than replay point. It was on a break point op for Med as well.

Popyrin has shown good form in Bercy. He beat Italian Matteo Berrettini 7-5, 7-6 (2) in the first round and Medvedev in three sets in the second. The Australian will face either Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard or Karen Khachanov in the Round of 16.
