Frances Tiafoe imitated basketball great LeBron James‘ ‘too small’ celebration after an easy win over Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets at the Cincinnati Open. When fans noticed this, they started slamming Tiafoe for the celebration.
Tiafoe, who is unseeded in the tournament, kickstarted his campaign with a straight-set win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Round of 64 before knocking out Musetti in the next round. This was their fifth clash on the ATP Tour and Tiafoe now leads their head-to-head meetings 3-2.
As soon as Tiafoe won the match and shook hands with Musetti and the chair umpire, he hit James’ Olympics’ ‘too small’ celebration. Not James but other National Basketball Association (NBA) players often pull off the celebration after scoring a point or winning a match.

Tiafoe considers James his inspiration and was on cloud nine when the latter congratulated him after his fourth-round victory over Rafael Nadal at the 2022 US Open.
Netizens slam Frances Tiafoe for mimicking LeBron James’ iconic celebration
Many fans criticized Frances Tiafoe for his attitude despite being a ‘mediocre’ player. Some fans pointed out how much LeBron James has achieved in his career, which is not the case with Tiafoe, who has lifted just three titles and is yet to win his first Grand Slam trophy. A fan wrote that Tiafoe needs to find his own celebration without copying any other player.
A few questioned the American where he was when Lorenzo Musetti won the Olympic bronze medal. Tiafoe skipped the Paris Olympics while Musetti, after losing to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, beat Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in the bronze medal match.

I'm beginning to dislike him. First, it was him saying he was "losing to nobodys", now this.

Too proud for a mediocre player.
Why are American players the most unsufferable? Also what was Tiafoe doing while Musetti was winning a medal?

This is an extremely common celebration in basketball for years by the way, NBA players have done this forever

Curious to know where he was while Musetti was winning an Olympic medal? Clowns gonna stay clowns.

Know what LeBron has done? 4 titles, 3 gold medals, 1 IST, how many league MVPs? How many finals MVPs? What’s “Big Foe” done? This isn’t it.

I don’t care for it but it’s Tiafoe so between the season he has had, the current level Musetti has been playing, & how easily he won, it’s understandable that he would do it. It’s Tiafoe. Did we expect less?

Tiafoe is set to clash with Jiri Lehecka in the fourth round. The American has met the 22-year-old just once and leads the head-to-head meeting 1-0. They met in the fourth round of the 2023 Stuttgart Open, which Tiafoe won in straight sets.
Before Cincinnati, the 26-year-old American played at the Canadian Open, but his campaign ended after his opening match. He locked horns with Alejandro Tabilo in the Round of 64 and lost the match in straight sets.
After skipping the Olympics, Tiafoe participated in the Citi Open and made it to the semifinals where compatriot Sebastian Korda eliminated him in straight sets. Tiafoe, who is now World No. 27, has not won a trophy this season.
