Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch is one lucky man. The Timberwolves put on a show as they defeated the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, 112-107, at the Target Center on Friday night.
And they did so, without the services of Finch, who was ejected in the first quarter of the game. The Timberwolves handed the Thunder just their third loss of the season, which is their second loss in their last three games.
The star of the show was Anthony Edwards who recorded a double-double and scored a team-high 26 points. It was Ant-Man who scored the dagger-three when the scores were level and gave the Wolves a three-point lead at 108-105. Chris Finch has played a vital role in the development of Edwards’ career and the guard is having his best-ever campaign as he currently averages 28.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists.
It was an impressive win for the Wolves as it has propelled them to 18-10 after 28 games as they sit at sixth in the Western Conference standings while the Thunder dipped to 25-3 for the season and continue to stay at the top of the table.
Less than six minutes into the first quarter, a furious Finch was seen giving an earful to the referee and had to be held back by his staff before getting ejected. The coach was absolutely livid when Julius Randle did not receive a call after getting stripped following an offensive rebound. This is not the first time that Finch has been ejected for exchanging words with the official.
After receiving the ejection, Finch briefly headed towards the bench but quickly returned towards the official to continue his argument. He was caught shouting, “You’re a piece of sh*t!” to the referee.

The win would have calmed things down for Finch, who has often been critical of officials, including the time when these two sides met last season in February.
Fans loved what they saw from Chris Finch
Despite the ejection and controversy, Timberwolves fans were supportive of their coach’s actions, with many hoping this would bring a change and some consistency to their calls. Here are some of the reactions:
I love you Chris Finch

Anthony Edwards fed off Chris Finch’s energy
While Finch grabbed the headlines for the controversy that took place, it was Edwards who stole the show with his performance and game-winner, giving the Timberwolves their biggest win of the 2025-26 campaign so far. They became just the third team to beat the Thunder, alongside the Portland Trail Blazers and the San Antonio Spurs.

After the victory, Edwards made sure to thank his head coach for igniting their energy during the match.
We fed off Finchy’s energy. That’s all it was. Was that the first time you got thrown out, Finchy? Hell yeah.

This could have been the win that could be a huge confidence booster for the Wolves, who have shown some inconsistency this season. Whereas, for the Thunder, it was a disappointing loss as they looked to break the regular-season record of 73 wins in a season.
