New Chiefs OT Kingsley Suamataia discloses Penei Sewell and Puka Nacua are two of his many family members playing in the NFL

Kingsley Suamataia is destined for greatness in the NFL. Why? Well, that’s because success runs in his blood.

During his introductory interview, the 21-year-old revealed that he has several cousins currently playing in the league. One of them is his former Oregon teammate and Detroit Lions offensive lineman Penei Sewell. The two-time Pro Bowler has been a massive influence in Suamataia’s life.

Big shout out to cousin Penei [Sewell]. The things he's taught me are invaluable. Much love to that guy. I've learned a lot [from him]. Just how he sees the game. I wouldn't be half the offensive lineman I am without him.

Another prominent name that the Hawaiian native shared a bloodline with is Puka Nacua.

Kingsley Suamataia added

Like Kingsley, Nacua also graduated from BYU and joined the Los Angeles Rams in 2023. He set the record for most receptions (105) and receiving yards (1486) by a rookie wide receiver.

Suamataia also has a bunch of other family members scattered throughout the NFL. The Sewell siblings: Noah, who plays for the Chicago Bears, and Nephi, who the New Orleans Saints drafted.

Why did the Chiefs draft Kingsley Suamataia?

The 6-foot-5 Suamataia is part of the long heritage of Polynesian athletes in the NFL. Andy Reid was so dead set on bringing the BYU graduate to Kansas City that he asked general manager Brett Veach to trade away their 64th and 173rd picks to the San Francisco 49ers to acquire the 63rd pick, with which they drafted Suamataia.

Despite his massive stature, Suamataia is quite nimble on his feet. ,

He has impressive posture, weight distribution, and balance for a player of his size.
Pro Football Focus wrote

During his college football career with the Cougars, Kingsley played 1,342 offensive snaps, which is equivalent to an NFL campaign. He split his time between right tackle (51.2%) and left tackle (48.8%). 

I can play both ways—right and left. Wherever they can fit me in and [need me] to work, I'm ready to do whatever it takes.
Suamataia claimed

He surrendered only two sacks in his last 742 pass-blocking snaps. Not only that, he did not allow a single quarterback hit in the 2022 season. Suamataia is definitely in for the long haul with the defending Super Bowl winners. Spotrac revealed he signed a 4-year rookie contract, but the details are yet to be released.
