Kyren Lacy was the next star wide receiver NFL prospect to come out of the LSU Tigers. However, the world of gridiron football was dealt a massive jolt after Lacy was found dead inside his car on Saturday.

According to reports, the police were chasing Lacy near Houston around 11 p.m. After playing cat and mouse with the police, Lacy’s car crashed on Aldine Westfield Road near the Hardy Toll Road.

The police rushed to check on the 24-year-old, only to find him dead on the steering wheel. A spokesperson revealed that Lacy died of self-inflicted wounds to his head.

What caused Kyren Lacy’s death?

After calling the curtains on his final year with LSU by winning the Texas Bowl, Lacy was preparing for the NFL. Several NFL mock drafts even projected him as the sixth-best wide receiver in the 2025 draft.

Kyren Lacy’s life took a dark turn on January 10. Eyewitness reports revealed he was driving recklessly—speeding and passing in a no-passing zone—when his car, a Dodge Charger, crashed head-on against another vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 78-year-old man named Herman Hall of Thibodaux, Louisiana, died in the hospital. Authorities revealed that Lacy fled the scene of the accident but later turned himself in of his own volition. He was booked for negligent homicide.

Surprisingly, two days after the accident, Kyren Lacy announced the draft, but the incident caused his draft stock to plummet. From being a sort of receiver, Lacy found himself on the verge of being undrafted.

On Saturday, April 12, the Harris County Precinct 4 unit saw Lacy with his car and tried to stop him. He drove away, and the cops chased after him. Following a brief tailing, they found Lacy’s car crashed on the side of the road and the Louisiana native dead at the wheel.

Even though the Unit 4 cops discovered a firearm on him, the dash cam mounted inside the police car didn’t pick up a gunshot. Kyren Lacy’s body was taken to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences for autopsy to determine the cause of his death. For now, they are calling Kyren Lacy’s death a suicide.

Heartfelt messages pour in from all corners for Kyren Lacy

There were massive expectations surrounding Lacy. He was ready to become the next Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, or Malik Nabers. Unfortunately, the world will never get to see him play in the NFL.

The news shocked the football world. Tributes and heartfelt messages poured in on social media. Lacy’s former quarterback at LSU and current Commanders’ starter Jayden Daniels wrote on Instagram: “Till next time brudda… U gon live yo dreams through us.. hope u at peace now.”

“Dam rip lacy,” Ja’Marr Chase posted with a heart emoji.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray took to X to share his thoughts about the untimely demise of Kyren Lacy.

One of the saddest stories all around man, RIP to Kyren Lacy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the LSU community. I also want to extend my condolences to Herman Hall and his family. Everyone lost in this scenario. Hug your loved ones tight, tomorrow isn’t promised.

Las Vegas Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby tweeted

Kyren Lacy’s father, Kenny Lacy, urged parents to check on their children’s mental health from an early age.

Our lives have [been] changed forever and this will never be ok, but God needed my baby more than he was needed here… This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through.
