Patriots fans of all religions, creeds, and genders are flocking to Denver to cheer on Drake Maye as he prepares to take on the Broncos in the AFC Championship game. The Boston club is in this position after overcoming the challenges from the Chargers and the Texans.
Maye was a standout in both games, throwing 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions and averaging 7 yards per pass in his second year as quarterback. The Patriots’ victories ensured their safe journey to their first conference title game since the 2018 season.
Opposite of the Patriots are the first-seeded Broncos, who enjoyed a bye in the first week of the playoffs. They took care of Josh Allen and the Bills in the divisional round and set up a blockbuster tie against the team from Boston.
Even though the game is in Denver’s backyard in Colorado, the Patriots are the betting favorites to secure a win on Sunday. Fans have started to flock into the city to enjoy a night of swashbuckling football at Empower Field. On Saturday, NBC10 Boston reporter/anchor Colton Bradford spoke with one such group, and their energy reminded him of downtown Massachusetts.
Bradford took inspiration from the folks around him and joined in on the fun. He even whipped up an original slogan.
You know what, as a gay man, I also am Gay for Maye.

Bradford is among the few openly gay men who are comfortable talking about their sexuality in open spaces. He proudly conveys himself as part of LGBTQIA+ movement, but has opted to stick with his male pronouns.
Tom Brady points out what sets Drake Maye apart as a standout player for the Patriots
Maye’s first year in New England seems like distant memory of the past. Under the Jerod Mayo regime, Maye struggled to find his feet despite showing flashes of brilliance in patches.

It’s true that the lackluster performances got Mayo fired, but according to owner Robert Kraft, Mayo was never a long-term project. In fact, Kraft called Mayo’s appointment a big mistake from his end.
Anyways, Kraft made amends by appointing former player and Titans head coach Mike Vrabel before the 2025 season. Sure, the Patriots played the easiest schedule in the league, but they did so in style. They wrapped up the AFC East with a few games to spare and ended the regular season as the second seed.
The defense deserves a lot of the plaudits for shutting down several tricky opponents. However, it was Maye who kept the ball rolling in the offense. Maye forced his way into the MVP conversation alongside the Rams’ Matthew Stafford and the 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey.
Tom Brady, who won six rings in New England, claimed Maye being this good is no fluke.
Drake Maye has that humility. Everything that comes out of his mouth is always about the team. It’s always about praising his defense, praising his offensive line. That’s how you connect with people. That’s what great leaders do — they’re in service of other people. It’s not about what can you do for me, it’s what can I do for you. How can I support your goals, your vision? True leadership is about humility.
Tom Brady told Colin Cowherd on The Herd

Maye deserves to be in the running for the title of the best player in football. He completed 72% of his passes for 4394 yards, 35 total touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in 17 games for the Patriots.
