When the 2024 NFL season began, the New Orleans Saints were one of the teams that got off to a dominant start as they beat the Carolina Panthers 47-10 and the Dallas Cowboys 44-19 in Week 2. This raised hopes amongst the fanbase that they were contenders, but in the subsequent weeks, the Saints crumbled and lost seven straight games.
This disappointing sequence of events has resulted in the New Orleans Saints firing Head Coach Dennis Allen. Despite the team being plagued by multiple injuries, the locker room had begun to turn against Allen.
He failed to make the necessary adjustments once key players such as Chris Olave and Derek Carr sat out owing to injuries. The tipping point for ownership was Sunday’s loss and the HC has officially been fired.

The Saints made history for all the wrong reasons as they became the first team to lose a game after outgaining their opponents by over 150 yards on passing and rushing. In the past two decades, teams that put up similar numbers had gone 275-0.
Saints have difficult challenges to overcome after firing of Dennis Allen
All is not well in New Orleans. The team’s quarterback Derek Carr took heat from Michael Thomas who went on a significant rant regarding his negative impact on the team. The task of regrouping the players and uniting the locker room will now fall in the hands of special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi.
Rizzi has been with the team since 2019 and was promoted to assistant head coach in 2022. He has not served in the capacity of an HC since 2001 when he headed the football program at the University of New Haven for 3 seasons.
Following the team’s 1-point loss to the Panthers, defensive end Cam Jordan took to X and expressed his disappointment in the team’s performance.
Losing to the same Carolina Panthers whom you dismantled in Week 1 is an indication that you have hit rock bottom. Now Dennis Allen’s tenure with the Saints ends with a losing record of 18-25.
With under a week left for the Saints’ game against the Atlanta Falcons, Rizzi will have his hands full as he attempts to bring the competitive spirit back into the locker room and reignite their sense of enthusiasm for the game.
