New York Knicks legend would have ‘SMACKED’ Joel Embiid for intentional dirty play in playoffs

New York Knicks legend Charles Oakley would have smacked Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid for his dirty play

Joel Embiid ruffled some feathers when he tried an intentionally dirty play in game 3 of the playoffs. In that process, the Philadelphia 76ers superstar ended up injuring Mitchell Robinson. Even though the New York Knicks had a verbal altercation with the big man, a former legend thinks it was not enough. Charles Oakley would have given a more apt treatment.

In an interview with Barbara Baker of Newsday, the New York Knicks legend had this response after watching Embiid’s dirty play:

I probably would have smacked him.

Essentially, the former All-Star would have given the apt reaction to a player who is looking to intentionally hurt one of his teammates. Even though Embiid was issued a flagrant foul, Oakley thinks he should have been given a taste of his own medicine.

Charles Oakley was known as the enforcer while on the New York Knicks teams of the 90’s. A rebounding machine and a defensive specialist, the former 1st round pick used his toughness to make a statement. He wants his former team to go up against Joel Embiid with that same toughness.

Oakley prefers that the New York Knicks not get bothered by the superstar’s antics and take the battle to him. If only they had the personnel to take the fight to Joe Embiid. But if they do listen to their former rebounding king, it could make a difference in the playoffs.

New York Knicks need to take the fight to Joel Embiid

Even though the 1st round of the playoffs standing at 2-1 is in the favor of the New York Knicks, it would bode them well if they listened to Charles Oakley’s advice. After all, if Joel Embiid continues to play the way he did in game 3, it will turn the series around. The Knicks do not have an answer to the big man’s domination. They must learn to deal with him if they are to progress into the next round.

Mitchell Robinson and Isaiah Hartenstein, both 7-footers, have not done enough to slow down the reigning MVP. They will have to figure out how to either slow down Embiid or limit the scoring of his teammates. The New York Knicks did their best to snatch 2nd place in the East. But getting past Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers is a daunting task.
