New York Knicks late surge tops New Orleans Pelicans in OT for 6th straight win

Julius Randle

It is safe to say that the New York Knicks could’ve seen their longest streak in 7 years come to an end if the New Orleans Pelicans had listened to their coach Stan Van Gundy. Having said that as the Pelicans did not follow the instructions, the reciprocations were catastrophic as the home team bounced right back into the game, gaining their 6th consecutive victory.

Julius Randle led the New York Knicks with emphatics double-double with 33 points and 10 assists. But it was Derrick Rose who kept the Knicks in the hunt with a clutch shot as Pelicans went onto beat pelicans 122-112 in OT. The Knicks controlled the extra period from there to extend their longest winning streak since an eight-game run in 2013-14.

Zion Williamson had 34 points and 9 rebounds in his first career game at Madison Square Garden. Yet the New York Knicks beat the Pelicans for the second time this week. Eric Bledsoe scored 20 of his 22 points after halftime for the New Orleans Pelicans, who came back from a 13-point halftime deficit and seemingly had the game under control late in the fourth quarter.

Derrick Rose scored 23 points. He had the assist on Reggie Bullock’s 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds left in regulation, blocked a last shot by the Pelicans that would’ve won it and then opened overtime with a steal and layup to give New York Knicks the lead for good.

Most of that wouldn’t have been possible if the New Orleans Pelicans had first listened to Stan Van Gundy’s plan to foul intentionally with a 3-point lead, or if once they didn’t, Lonzo Ball hadn’t cheated off Bullock to help on a driving Rose when a layup wouldn’t have hurt.
