The $600 million sweepstakes of Juan Soto has heated up once again. As per reports, the New York Yankees have increased their original offer for the 4-time MLB All-Star as the race for him intensifies.
The 26-year-old is currently the hottest free agent in MLB. After slamming 41 home runs and having 109 RBI, he helped the Yankees win their first American League pennant since 2009. Following the conclusion of the season, he rejected their qualifying offer and officially became a free agent.
Five teams including the Yankees have submitted an offer to Soto. Their cross-town rivals, New York Mets are currently viewed as favorites to land him in the offseason.
As per Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees have now upped their bid for Soto. According to the MLB Insider, this move could be done by the team to improve their position in this rumored $600 million sweepstakes.
According to Heyman, the Bronx Bombers have informed Soto of including an opt-out clause in their package. This though is not going to separate them from the others as several teams are expected to agree to this clause in his deal.

Though Soto remains the number one target for the team, they have made contact with other players as well. The Yankees have staged calls with top free-agent starting pitchers Corbin Burnes and Max Fried as they look to add some firepower to their rotation as well.
They were also reported to be in talks with Blake Snell. However, the 2-time Cy Young Award announced his decision to join the Los Angeles Dodgers on a five-year, $182 million deal, which meant that the Yankees lost out on him again.
Former MLB star claims Aaron Judge needs to ‘flex’ his muscles in attempts to help Yankees land Juan Soto
The free agency saga of Juan Soto is currently the biggest talking point in MLB. Several fans, experts, and insiders have given their say in it. A former MLB star has now claimed that New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge needs to ‘flex‘ his muscles in an attempt to land Juan Soto.
Former MLB pitcher Trevor May recently appeared on the Foul Territory podcast. In this, he called Judge the “Lebron James of the game” and claimed that he should step in to help the team.

These words of May come after Judge informed that he had not spoken to Soto about free agency. Judge recently said that the best thing to do right now was to give him and other free agents the time to think about their next moves.
The 2024 American League MVP though has spoken with the team owner Hal Steinbrenner regarding Soto. The Yankees captain has spoken about him and other players on whom the team could make some moves in the offseason.
Judge and Soto formed a formidable duo in the 2024 season. They both combined to hit 99 home runs which saw them being named as Silver Slugger Award winners. The two of them also achieved podium finishes in the AL MVP race with Soto finishing third and Judge taking home the crown.
