The first Test between New Zealand and Pakistan is currently in progress at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui with Day 2 having concluded. Batting first, New Zealand posted a mammoth 431 despite losing two early wickets. Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi breathed fire in his opening spell removing openers Tom Latham and Tom Blundell. However, Pakistan’s initial excitement was quelled in no time.

Ever-reliable batsmen Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor rescued the Black Caps with remarkably composed knocks. Although Taylor was out for 70, the former went on to make a hundred. Henry Nicholls and BJ Watling who followed also came up with handy half-centuries to frustrate the Pakistanis. At the end of Day 2, New Zealand found themselves ahead by 401 runs with Pakistan’s score reading 30/1 in 20 overs.

Fans mock Pakistan’s poor fielding effort

To rub salt into Pakistan’s wounds from the terrific effort of the New Zealand batsmen, they were guilty of dropping a lot of easy catches. Two catches off Naseem Shah’s bowling were dropped while a sitter was dropped by Haris Sohail off the bowling of Shaheen Afridi. To add further insult to injury, Pakistan chose to not review an LBW decision against New Zealand skipper Williamson.

All in all, it was a poor two days on the field for Pakistan and on the morning of Day 2, a group of NZ fans were seen holding a board mocking Pakistan’s fielding. The sign was keeping a count of each dropped catch, misfield, poor throws and poor usage of DRS and whenever one of the aforementioned happened, the same would be updated on the sign. This bit of on-field cricket ‘analysis’ by spectators has gone viral.
