Kane Williamson was in sparkling touch in the two-match series as he scored a century in the first match before following it up with a marathon double-hundred in the second. He was ably supported by the bowling of Kyle Jamieson who picked up a 11-wicket haul in the second match to be named Man of the Match. With the series win, New Zealand went top of the ICC Team Rankings in Test for the first time in history.
Watch – BJ Watling interrupts Kane Williamson
During the post-match press conference, skipper Kane Williamson was fielding questions when wicket-keeper batsman BJ Watling interrupted him with a shirt and a pen and asked for an autograph. A puzzled Williamson asked, “What’s going on?” to which Watling said, “Sorry, big fan” before his captain signed the shirt for him with a smile on his face.
Williamson has been in scintillating form in the New Zealand summer and the same has helped him move to Number 1 in the ICC Rankings for batsmen in Tests overtaking Virat Kohli and Steve Smith who are at No. 3 and No. 2 respectively at the moment.
