When Aaron Rodgers came out of the Jets tunnel at MetLife Stadium on Monday night, no one predicted he would limp off the field with a serious injury. Moreover, no one expected his season to be over on his first game. Nevertheless, he asked the New York Jets fans to have faith and reminded them that there’s always light at the end of a dark tunnel.
The city of New York buzzed excitedly with the announcement that Aaron Rodgers would join the Jets after 18 years in Green Bay. He chose the Jets because of what they were building and their desire for the future. They had a top-five defense and a robust and young offense, but the only department they lacked was the quarterback.
Former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson played the most in the 2022 season. However, transitioning from college football to the NFL proved challenging for the 24-year-old. Hence, signing Aaron Rodgers was solving two problems with one trade. The Jets instantly gain a quarterback with the knowledge of winning a Super Bowl, and Wilson could learn from him. Rodgers had the same intention when asked how long he would stick around in New York. He denied it wouldn’t be only one season but rather that he has aspirations to play until 45 and then pass the baton to Zach Wilson.
However, his perfect plan was nipped in the bud on opening day when he faced Buffalo. Bills defensive end Leondar Floyd‘s tackle tore Rodgers’ Achilles, forcing him out for the rest of the season. The 39-year-old shared his thoughts on Instagram. He wrote, “Thank you to every person that has reached out, called, texted, DM’d, connected through a friend, etc. It has meant a ton to me, and I’ll try and get back to all of you soon. I’m completely heartbroken and moving through all of the emotions, but deeply touched and humbled by the support and love.“
“Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I begin the healing process today. The night is darkest before the dawn. And I shall rise yet again. Proud of my guys, 1-0,” he added.

Will Aaron Rodgers’ injury force the New York Jets to acquire a new quarterback?
Aaron Rodgers’ injury came as a shock to everyone who tuned into Monday Night Football. But none more than to Robert Saleh and the Jets coaching team. They were delaying the veteran quarterback’s appearance to prevent such a thing from happening. For that reason, Rodgers only played a few snaps in their final preseason game.
It’s fair to say they weren’t expecting an injury immediately. Moreover, the fans don’t want to rely on Zach Wilson after his unsatisfactory performance last season. Rodgers was QB 1 the moment he set foot in the Jersey facility. However, after his injury, calls on the internet were made to bring Tom Brady out of retirement and play him. However, head coach Robert Saleh will stick with Wilson. According to him, the former BYU player knows the system and the players, so this is the safe bet for now. Moreover, they can’t just go out and sign anyone; it’s not Madden.
“We’re still working through it all,” Saleh said. “We’re not pressed right now cause there are 2 guys on our roster for GameDay, so just trying to figure out what’s best, not only from a skill standpoint, but from a locker room standpoint, so there’s a lot of discussions going on in that regard. With Zach Wilson & Tim Boyle, those are our guys. They’ve been here from OTAs.”
If the Jets choose to dive into free agency, a few interesting names could entice them. Matt Ryan, Nick Foles, Carson Wentz, and a whole host of other players are available if needed.
