3 NFL Teams who can sign a new QB before the start of the season

NFL Teams

The 2022 NFL draft has ended and teams are well into their OTAs and getting their players accustomed to new players they picked up and building a winning culture. While some teams have found their right combinations for the 2022 season, there still might be some teams who might be in need of an upgrade.

We have seen a lot of QBs jump ship during this offseason and teams drafting young blood in hopes that they finally found their ‘franchise QB’. Here are three teams that might benefit by signing a QB during the offseason.

Carolina Panthers

Sam Darnold

The Panthers placed their hopes on having a successful season for a change in the hands of the 2018 third overall pick Sam Darnold. This went horribly wrong for them as Darnold managed to only win five games. Carolina Panthers’ last winning season was back in 2017 when Cam Newton was their quarterback. The Panthers did trade up in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft to pick Ole Miss QB, Matt Corral. While Coral is still a rookie and Darnold hasn’t been the most trustworthy of a leader the Panthers could look to sign a QB in the offseason. Maybe Carolina should put their trust back in the hands of their 2011 No.1 pick Cam Newton who also lead them to Super Bowl 50.

Seattle Seahawks

Drew Lock

The Seahawks are in a pretty bad situation now that perennial Pro Bowl QB Russell Wilson has parted his way with the organization. Wilson spent an entire decade in Seattle and led the team to victory in Super Bowl XLVIII. But since the 2021 season, Wilson left rather discontent at Seahawks and decided to move on. The team honored Wilson’s request for a traded and traded him to the Denver Broncos and received QB Drew Lock in exchange along with a few other picks. While Lock has been consistent during the OTAs, the team might still be in need of a more seasoned quarterback. The Seahawks finished the 2021 season with a 7-10 losing record. There have been rumors that Seattle might be looking into former MVP QB Cam Newton to lead them in the 2022 season. Then there’s also Baker Mayfield in the rotation who has the potential to be a great QB and Pete Carroll and Seahawks just might be the platform for him to prove his worth!

Atlanta Falcons

Desmond Ridder

The Falcons might be a little worried about their QB situation after MVP QB Matt Ryan shifted to Indianapolis earlier this offseason. They still have 2015 No.2 overall QB Marcus Mariota and they also selected Cincinnati Bearcats signal-caller Desmond Ridder. The only quarterback with actual NFL experience in their camp is Mariota who hasn’t shown any great potential during his entire career. He has a 29-32 career record which doesn’t exactly boost team morale. On the other hand, Ridder is a rookie and while he has been exceptional during the OTAs there is no saying as to how he performs in an actual NFL game with guys as big as mountains trying to sack him every opportunity they get. Atlanta should look at a QB who has been effective in winning games while also grooming Ridder to potentially take over if he shows real promise of being a franchise QB.
