Aaron Rodgers is ‘soon’ to make a decision on his future with the Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have been on somewhat rocky terms since their 2020 NFC Championship loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Lambeau Field. That loss resulted in Rodgers wanting out of Green Bay prior to the 2021 NFL season.

Since then, the Packers and Aaron Rodgers agreed to let things slide under the condition of having one more go at the Super Bowl in 2021. Well, they orchestrated a masterful regular season in which Rodgers dealt with the adversity of numerous injuries as well as Covid-19 and was still able to produce his second MVP campaign in a row.

Despite his illustrious play in the regular season, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers found themselves with a humiliating divisional-round exit as the #1 seed. Rodgers was nowhere to be found in the Packers’ 13-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

With the loss, the rumors of where Aaron Rodgers would play for after the Packers resurfaced again. Now having not made the Super Bowl since the 2010 season when the Packers won the big game, he’s expected to make a decision on his future in Green Bay.

Aaron Rodgers told ESPN’s Dianna Russini that a decision would be coming soon. Whether that decision is playing one more year in Green Bay under his contract, retiring now, or demanding a trade is yet to be seen. The part about Rodgers being under contract is worth noting.

The Green Bay Packers GM, Brian Gutekunst, recently revealed that he hasn’t promised a trade for Aaron Rodgers saying “That was not something I told him. Again, I think the whole conversation with Aaron last season before he came back was that, regardless, at the end of this past season, that we would sit down as a group and we would work it out one way or another.”

In the end, regardless of whether or not Aaron Rodgers wants out of Green Bay, it fully depends on if the Packers are willing to trade him. Rodgers is contractually obligated to play for the Packers in 2022. They’ve made it very clear that they want him to remain for the foreseeable future and at the very least for this upcoming season.

What all this means is that Aaron Rodgers will soon reveal to the Green Bay Packers what he wants to do and if it’s not in line with their vision, his decision may not have enough weight to make the Packers change what they want to do.
