Looks like the league is not ready to tolerate any “violent gestures” in the name of celebrations anymore. Close to a week after the Super Bowl LIX game, the league announced the decision to penalize the Philadelphia Eagles’ linebacker Jalyx Hunt for unsportsmanlike conduct.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday that the NFL has imposed a fine of $5,690 on a rookie linebacker for his bow-and-arrow celebration after scoring a sack. While the bow-and-arrow celebration is often seen in college football, the NFL– with a global audience– interprets this as a violent gesture, which should not be made by NFL players.
Scoring a sack of the Kansas City Chiefs elite quarterback Patrick Mahomes certainly counts as a big celebration, especially for rookie defensive players. That’s why, he mimicked an archer with his hands, gesturing to shoot a bow and arrow. Although he didn’t aim it at Mahomes or any other player on the field, the league is making a statement by fining players for such gestures.

The $5,690 fine amount is not too hefty for a player with a base rookie salary of $795,000, still, Rob McElhenney, co-creator, co-star, and co-writer of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, offered to pay the fine amount, citing the sack and its post-celebration was worth every penny of this fine.
Jalyx Hunt turns support into a charitable act
As wild as the Eagles fans are, they never fail to show support to their team and players. The rookie linebacker received tons of such support after the fine was announced by the NFL, but he suggested donating the money to a group that has been raising funds for 40 students to get higher education in college.

Mannn…I appreciate yall reaching out about pay the fine, but if y’all are serious about it let’s make a deal… I’ll pay the fine and y’all send the money to a great cause I learned about from my barber in Philly. Go Birdssss!!

The Philadelphia native star swiftly followed through with his offer, donating the entire $5,690 to the mentioned charity by Hunt. He even confirmed the transaction to the rookie linebacker with the hashtag “#FlyEaglesFly,” and received the compliment of being “Man of your word!” by the Philly rookie.
