“Brady was going to run the Dolphins?” – Tom Brady wanted to run Miami’s front office but Brain Flores’ lawsuit put a wrench in his plan
Tom Brady and Brain Flores
Tom Brady sent shockwaves throughout the NFL when he announced his return on Sunday. The 44-year old quarterback is set to return to Tampa Bay for his 23rd season in the league. Now that the legendary QB is back again with the Bucs, the organization is busy signing weapons for Brady to use in the 2022 season.
However, Brady’s original plan was to go to the Miami Dolphins along with Saints’ former head coach Sean Payton. This plan of Brady’s fell through due to Brian Flore’s lawsuit against the Dolphins and other NFL teams.
Tom Brady was going to run the Dolphins and Sean Payton was to be his head coach
Ben Volin of the Boston Globe shared the details of the Bucs QB’s Miami plans on Merloni & Fauria Monday. “There was the Mike Florio report that Brady and [former New Orleans Saints coach] Sean Payton were planning to team up in Miami. I know that’s true because I heard it independently, and I know I heard it from a different source than Mike Florio heard it,” Volin said. “So that to me is the key. So Brady announces his retirement on the morning of February 1, a Tuesday. What happens that same day? Brian Flores files his lawsuit against the Miami Dolphins. Throws a wrench in the entire plan.
“Brady was not gonna go to Miami necessarily to be the quarterback. He was gonna be Derek Jeter. He was gonna team up with Payton and run the Dolphins. He was gonna run the front office. It was gonna be [Dolphins owner] Stephen Ross’ big heist. You don’t need permission from the Bucs to get Brady to run your front office. And Sean Payton was gonna be his coach. Sean Payton and Brady are both represented by Don Yee, so there’s a whole connection there.”
If the whole debacle with Brain Flores and the teams hadn’t occurred we would’ve seen Brady in an entirely different role. Since this wasn’t going to happen, the 7x Super Bowl champ talked with the Glazer family at the Man United game that owns the Bucs and ManU. Brady said he’d return but they needed to address coach Arians’ issue.
Maybe that plan has taken a back seat given Brian Flores’ lawsuit but there’s a strong possibility that it might happen one day. It’ll be amazing to see Brady don another role in football.
