Brandon Scherff drops truth bomb over his stay at Washington

The regular season of the NFL has finally come to an end. The end of the regular season also brings up personnel changes in many teams. After the season finale game on Sunday, 3 head coaches were fired in a span of one day. Chicago Beras moved on from Matt Nagy, no surprises there. Minnesota Vikings parted ways with Mike Zimmer and Miami Dolphins fired head coach Brian Flores which came as a shock to everyone.
Brandon Scherff, guard for the Washington Football Team is all set to hit the free-agent market next season. Scherff was drafted by Washington, then known as the Redskins, in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Scherff is considered to be among the best guards in the NFL. However, Scherff does not wish to part ways with Washington.
Brandon Scherff is not ready to leave Washington, hopes to end his career with them
“I’d love to be here, and I hope I can end my career here,” Scherff told reporters Monday, via the Washington Football Wire. “I said that the last couple of times, and that’s always the goal for me, is to kind of finish where you started.” After signing left tackle Charles Leno to a three-year extension, the Washington Football Team has four of its five starting offensive linemen locked in for 2022. All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff is the only one left who hasn’t been offered a deal yet.
Scherff has been the recipient of the franchise tag for two straight years. A third tag would take his salary into QB money (north of $25 million), which is highly unlikely to happen. Fans are wondering why the All-Pro guard and Washington haven’t been able to come to a consensus. “I couldn’t tell you,” Scherff answered. “That’s between my agent and here.”
While five-time Pro Bowl guards rarely hit the open market, Scherff wishes to cash in with a massive long-term deal. Unfortunately, he’s been unable to obtain it from Washington. So while the 30-year-old has reiterated his wish to remain in D.C., the reality is that Scherff is more likely to get his long-term money elsewhere since Washington couldn’t get a deal done the past three years.
Brandon Scherff has been selected to the Pro-Bowl 5 times in his seven-year career. There are plenty of teams in need of an offensive line upgrade. So, Scherff should have a pretty robust market ahead of him this coming March.
