“No one cares if you win the offseason”: Broncos GM George Paton deflects early praise after acquiring Russell Wilson
George Paton and Russell Wilson
The Seattle Seahawks had a rather dismal season this time around. They failed to qualify for the playoffs and their fans were left dejected and disappointed. Russell Wilson, who has been a major part of the unit wasn’t able to deliver as per expectations.
Even at the Pro Bowl, Russell’s performance wasn’t great and it just felt like he was looking for a change. The speculations about the 33-year-old experienced campaigner thinking of ending his stint with the Seahawks surfaced after the 2021 season ended and as it turns out, he has found a new franchise.
“People only care if you win the regular season”: George Paton
Wilson signed a blockbuster deal with the Broncos and immediately, his new franchise started gaining more fans. As it turns out, Wilson’s Broncos jersey even surpassed the sales of Brady’s jersey at one point. Without a doubt, Wilson has a big reputation and he is expected to guide his side to wins in the coming season.
In the gigantic trade, Denver Broncos general manager George Paton played a huge role for which he was receiving a lot of praise. However, Paton has decided to downplay any early praise as he reckons that winning the offseason makes no sense if one can’t win the regular season.
“I don’t get out much. My family doesn’t praise me,” Paton recently said, as reported by Mike Klis of 9News. “The fact is we won seven games. I’m a 7-10 GM. No one cares if you win the offseason. They only care if you win the regular season. We keep everything in perspective.”
Paton was roped in by the Broncos the last offseason hoping that he will guide the team out of misery. In the last six seasons, the Broncos have failed to make their way to the playoffs but with Wilson into the side, their fans would be feeling positive about the coming season.
