The league officials have taken the call as Ridley gambled on a number of games back in November 2021. At that time, he was on the non-football injury list. Ridley had then stepped asked for a break in order to pay more attention to his mental health.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wrote a letter to Calin informing him about his suspension. “There is nothing more fundamental to the NFL’s success and to the reputation of everyone associated with our league than upholding the integrity of the game,” the letter read.

This is the responsibility of every player, coach, owner, game official, and anyone else employed in the league. Your actions put the integrity of the game at risk, threatened to damage public confidence in professional football, and potentially undermined the reputations of your fellow players throughout the NFL,” it further read.

For decades, gambling on NFL games has been considered among the most significant violations of league policy warranting the most substantial sanction. In your case, I acknowledge and commend you for your promptly reporting for an interview, and for admitting your actions,” Roger further wrote.

After his suspension was announced, Ridley took to Twitter to claim that he bet around $1,500 in total and stated that he does not have a gambling problem. Ridley further claimed that he knows he is wrong and he will come back stronger. “I know I was wrong But I’m getting 1 year lol,” he also claimed.
