Cam Newton had a great start to his NFL career as a quarterback but he seemed to have lost his footing along the way. The 2011 No.1 draft pick played for the Carolina Panther for nine years where he won a lot of accolades including the 2015 NFL MVP. He was traded to the Patriots in 2019 and was resigned after a year by the Panthers.

It was expected that Newton would regain his lost glory but nothing of that sort happened. He now remains a free agent looking for an opportunity to show his worth once again. Amidst looking for a way back as a starter in the NFL, Cam Newton landed himself in big trouble for his comments about women which were frankly misogynistic.

Now a women for me is, handling your own but knowing how to cater to a man’s needs. Right? And I think a lot of times when you get that ascetic of ‘I’m a boss bitch, Imma this, Imma that.’ No baby! But you can’t cook. You don’t know when to be quiet! You don’t know how to allow a man to lead,” Newton said on an episode of the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast.

Now, the former Panthers QB is defending his statement was saying that it was completely taken out of context. “Growing up, how I grew up, raising my children — my daughters — the way I raise them is completely different than how I was depicted and I think that it hurts me to a degree but also tells me where we still are as a society. We are very very sensitive on topics that needs to be kinda brought to the forefront,” Cam said via his YouTube channel.

“I know my heart, I know my intentions. I never once had this sexist mentality and I never had this dictatorship mentality towards women. That’s completely false. That narrative being highlighted is completely against that I believe in.” Cam poured his heart out and said he wishes everyone know that he supports women and his statement wasn’t meant to hurt anybody. He further added that he finds solace in the fact that he knows his heart and doesn’t mind being used as a sacrificial lamb to highlight important issues.

As of now, the 32-year-old QB is focusing all his energy to make a comeback in the NFL. But it looks like he will have to wait until after the draft for teams to consider a veteran like him. It’s unclear whether his statement will hinder his chances of making a comeback. We’ll just have to wait and see.
