“Comeback of the Year,” Cincinnati Bengals claim stupendous record after 27-24 victory over the Chiefs
The world of NFL witnessed a massive turnaround in the AFC Championship finals as Cincinnati Bengals stunned the favourites Kansas City Chiefs to secure their title and earn a place in this year’s Super Bowl.
It will be the first time the Bengals are in the Super Bowl for the first time in 33 years after winning the match by a margin of 27-24 with a comeback for the ages. At one point, the game looked dead and buried in favour of the Kansas City Chiefs as they picked up a lead of 21-3 in the second quarter.
Cincinnati Bengals won the game despite losing the toss in OT to cap off a brilliant comeback
However, rather than throwing in the towel, the Bengals fought back bravely to etch their name onto the history books forever. When the match ended in their favour it was the 2nd-largest road comeback win in NFL postseason history.
The Cincinnati Bengals also became the second team under the current overtime rules to win a playoff game after not winning the coin toss, after the Los Angeles Rams had done a similar thing in 2018 during their match against the New Orleans Saints.
Evan McPherson laid the finishing touches to one of the most incredible of comebacks scoring a field goal to get his side up by 24-21 with only seconds remaining in the clock.
According to NFL Research, no team in NFL history has overcome a halftime deficit of 10-plus points to win multiple games against the same opponent in a single season (including playoffs) until the Bengals this season, and now they have a chance of winning a Super Bowl.
The Bengals will take on the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl LVI on the 13th of February at the SoFi stadium in what is expected to be a riveting and mouth-watering clash between the AFC and the NFC Champions.
