The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott suffered another painful playoff loss on Sunday bringing a close to their hopes of finally ending the 26 year Super Bowl drought. The defeat came at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers who for the second half of the game didn’t even have Nick Bosa. There wasn’t a single point in the game where Dallas took the lead in a truly embarrassing performance for the team.

While the 23-17 scoreline suggests the game was tight, the Cowboys were never really in it. Going into the 4th quarter they were down 2 scores and even after cutting it to a 1 score deficit with 8 minutes to go, their next chance to tie the game came in the last minute of the game.

The controversial end to the game may overshadow what actually happened during it because Dallas didn’t properly get to have a final shot at the end zone but regardless, the Niners defense owned them. The terrible performance has some calling for Mike McCarthy to be fired. Included in those people is Colin Cowherd who absolutely went off on McCarthy.

Colin Cowherd thinks Dak Prescott needs a better head coach

Following the loss, Colin Cowherd on his show “The Herd” was quoted saying, “Dak’s your guy now but Mike McCarthy didn’t have to be your guy. I don’t have a lot of sympathy for the Dallas Cowboys if you keep doing the same stuff over and over and over. Dak is a solid quarterback, sometimes he’s pretty good and he’s got a weak coach. So you can’t change Dak. You can’t run him out of town. Where do you make the change? Dak is not talented enough to overcome a really average coach.”

Very strong words that are very true. Dak Prescott most certainly is a good quarterback. He’s done more than enough to prove himself. However, Mike McCarthy since leaving Green Bay has not been that. The Cowboys were able to beat up on the NFC East and beat the poor teams this season to rack up the wins and get into the postseason but when playing the good teams, they simply did not show up and Sunday’s performance was another showcase of exactly that.

Cowherd finished his rant strongly too, saying, “You have to move the pieces you can move. You’ve got a younger coach, I don’t know if you’ve looked around but younger coaches are winning everywhere. If you wanna go defense, he’s in the house (Dan Quinn). He revitalized your defense last year. But I’ve got no sympathy for anybody inside that organization if you run this nonsense back.”
