“You have a guy that turns the ball over every game!” Dan Orlovsky calls out Giants owner, John Mara, for hyping up Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones, Dan Orlovsky and John Mara
Daniel Jones has had a tumultuous time in the big apple as his career with the New York Giants has never really got going. Big Blue still has faith in him, apparently, as owner John Mara recently backed his quarterback.
In 2021, Daniel Jones started only 11 games and threw for 2428 yards, 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. It was certainly nothing impressive and his career has sort of been that way too. Jones is yet to start a full season as well as have a winning record as a starter.
When you’re drafted with the #6 overall pick, people have high expectations. That certainly was the case for Jones as he was expected to take over from Eli Manning and lead the Giants to glory. The poor play can’t be fully blamed on Daniel Jones as he certainly hasn’t been put in positive situations and his owner certainly feels that way too.
He recently spoke to Paul Schwartz of the ‘New York Post’ and was quoted saying “You tell me what quarterback could have thrived over these last couple years with what we had out there on offense? The last four years, we had more injuries than anybody in the league and a lot of ’em were on offense. So let’s give him a chance with a new staff and a better offensive line and we think he’ll be very successful.”
Dan Orlovsky recently shared his thoughts about Mara’s sentiment and how he disagrees.
Dan Orlovsky faults Daniel Jones for the Giants’ struggles
On a segment of ESPN’s ‘Get Up’, Dan Orlovsky responded to Mara’s statement saying “Are watching the same guys? You’re gonna tell me that you have one(a quarterback) and then watch guys like Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson, or Aaron Rodgers, you’re gonna tell me you have one of those guys? You have a guy who turns the ball over in every game. He’s started 50 games, he has 49 turnovers.”
Orlovsky further added “I understand he has been put in a bad situation but, the situation isn’t gonna be much better this year. For them to expect him to take a giant jump and fix all these things that have been fatal flaws, I think that’s just silly. I think they’re just trying to play the right game with the right words but they don’t have the same guys I’m watching.”
It’s a very solid point made by Orlovsky and one that could ultimately ring true. What the Giants do have to be credited for is not giving up on their QB too early as many teams have done in the past. This will be Danie Jones’ 4th season in the big apple and it seems he certainly will be the starting QB. He still has things to prove, however, and the Giants will only have so much patience.
