“They had problems with the lyrics, but…”: Dr. Dre reveals NFL’s actual take on ‘Eminem taking a knee’ issue

Dr. Dre and Eminem
The Super Bowl turned out to be an extremely entertaining extravaganza. Full of ups and downs, the Bengals and the Rams played their heart out but in the end, it was the Rams who took home the coveted trophy. Apart from the incredible action, the fans were treated to some astounding music during the halftime show.
However, during his performance, Rap God Eminem took a knee which caught everyone’s attention. There were reports claiming that NFL tried to stop the music icon from doing so. For the unversed, Eminem joined an All-Star cast for a short medley performance during the Super Bowl LVI half-time show to perform a snippet of ‘Forgot About Dre’ and ‘Lose Yourself’.
Dr. Dre quashes claims of NFL denying Eminem to take the knee

Towards the end of his performance, Eminem dropped on his knee which is a symbolic gesture of the Black Lives Matter Movement. The NFL denied the allegations of them stopping Eminem from doing the gesture on stage. “We watched all elements of the show during multiple rehearsals this week and were aware that Eminem was going to do that,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy had said.
However, the general public was convinced that NFL must have tried to stop Eminem and the rapper still went against them. Recently, in a chat with TMZ, Dr. Dre made a few points about the controversy. He said that the NFL asked him to do some minor changes to the lyrics but did not stop Em from making the gesture.
“There were a few things we had to change, but it was really minor things,” Dre said. Talking about Eminem taking the knee, he said “that was Em doing that on his own and there was no problem with that.” During Lamar’s section, which consisted of a medley of some of his songs, the lyric “If Pirus and Crips all got along / They’d probably gun me down by the end of this song” was absent from ‘mAAd City.’
Dre confirmed that the line was removed after the organizers requested them to do so. “They had a problem with it, so we had to take that out. No big deal, we get it. But all in all, everybody came in, we were professional, everybody was on time and everybody felt the magnitude of this thing and what we were gonna be able to accomplish,” Dre added.
