“Dumb Penalties”: NFL analysts said unnecessary penalties caused Dallas Cowboys’ embarrassing defeat to the 49ers

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have done it again. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys raised the hopes of their fans by dominating in the regular season and showing them dreams of a potential Super Bowl. However, they failed miserably in the Super Wild Card weekend.

San Fransico 49ers were dominating the game from the moment the first snap was played and crushed Dallas 23-17. Dallas Cowboys’ shameful defeat is the cause of many factors — Dak Prescott’s horrible performance, the Umpire knocking Prescott over costing the Cowboys precious time, among other reasons.

If Dak Prescott did not hurry to get into formation, then maybe the clock would’ve been stopped

Tim Hasselbeck joins SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt to discuss a scenario in which the Cowboys could’ve won the game if some of the mistakes were avoided. “Had Dak been holding the ball I almost wonder if someone on the field blows the whistle if George isn’t in the spot he’s supposed to be”, Scott Van Pelt said referring to Dak Prescott forming the huddle immediately after his 17-yard run.

Hasselbeck bolstered Van Pelt’s statement by saying, “That would get the official’s attention if Dak is waiting for the officials to get there but because he kinda clumsily put it (the ball) down starts getting grabbed by offensive linemen that doesn’t happen.” The Cowboys did not get a chance to play the snap after Prescott’s 17-yard run with 14 seconds left on the clock.

The Cowboys are furious because they did not get a chance to play and score a touchdown. There is no definite guarantee that the Cowboys could have scored a TD in the 14 seconds that were remaining. Van Pelt asked Hasselbeck what caused Dallas the win against the 49ers. “Oh! The penalties”, said Hasselbeck. “They lost the game because of dumb penalties.” Dallas Cowboys had 14 penalties which are the second most in postseason history.

He said, “Penalties in terms of false snaps, pre snaps issues on both sides of the ball. That type of stuff cannot happen.” There is no point in blaming anyone. No one can change what took place. Hard luck to the Cowboys! Hope you can perform better next season.
