“We gotta put him in those situations” – Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon talks about the impact Jordan Davis can have on the team
Jordan Davis and Jonathan Gannon
The Philadelphia Eagles are looking stronger on both offensive and defensive fronts as they completed Day 1 of training camp. The players have strong chemistry backing them which will help them make a long playoff run. The offense looks fresh with QB Jalen Hurts having gone through rigorous training over the summer which resulted in accurate passes.
On the defensive front, there was a bit of an issue about the defensive coordinator being able to present a formidable defense. Now that Haason Reddick, Kyzir White, Nakobe Dean, and Jordan Davis have been added to the roster, there are a bunch of different mixtures that Jonathan Gannon can utilize this season.
“No expectations from me right now” – Jonathan Gannon on Jordan Davis
Jordan Davis came to the limelight at the 2022 NFL combine when he ran a 4.78 40. While this might seem like something every other athlete does but when you factor in the fact that Davis stands tall at 6-foot-6, 350 pounds it’s a commendable feat to achieve. Back at Georgia, Davis was the backbone of the Bulldogs’ defense which led the team to the national championship victory earlier this year.
After the first day of training camp, defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon spoke at the press conference about the team’s status and how strong it looks going into the 2022 season. While talking about the 13the overall pick of the 2022 NFL draft, Gannon said, “No expectations from me right now. I’d like to see him play and practice and see what he can do. It’s just like everybody else you know. How he fits in with the other guys that he’s in there with and what he does well and we gotta put him in those situations so he can be successful.”
Davis reminds everyone of Calais Campbell who is 6-feet-8 and 300 lbs. Campbell is strong as a mountain which does have an advantage but he isn’t that mobile. It’s sometimes easy to run past and miss out on being tackled by Campbell. However, in the combine, Davis showcased with his insane speed that he has that advantage over Campbell and he can be a more effective defensive tackle.
It’ll be a treat to watch how Gannon decided to use Jordan Davis in his defense. Opposition players for sure won’t like to have Davis run at them to take their heads off. From the reports on the Eagles’ first day of training camp, it looks like Philadelphia is going to show the league who the real boss is this season.
