“I was targeted as I’m a WOMAN”: Erin Andrews calls the hullabaloo after she hugged Aaron Rodgers stupid & senseless

Erin Andrews and Aaron Rodgers

If there is someone who knows how to stay in the limelight better than anyone else, it is Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers. The star quarterback has been through a lot of highs and lows in the recent past. He was hailed by Twitteratis when he surpassed Brett Favre to become Green Bay’s all-time leader in touchdown passes, he was recently named first-team All-Pro quarterback over Tom Brady which again fetched him a lot of support.

However, Rodgers has had his fair share of lows as well this season. He has been mercilessly trolled for his vaccine lie, expert commentary on covid treatment methods, and for a plethora of other reasons. One of the controversies he was involved in led to the brutal trolling of Erin Andrews as well.

After the COVID-19 pandemic struck, it became a norm that reporters will have to conduct socially distant interviews with athletes. Following the same path, Fox’s Erin Andrews conducted an interview with Aaron Rodgers after the Christmas day game while keeping a distance of six feet.

Everything went as planned, however, what happened after the interview came to an end left many fans experts perplexed. After the interaction was done, Andrews went on to hug Aaron Rodgers. After a video of the incident went viral, netizens reprimanded Andrews for what she had done. Recently, Erin told her side of the story on her podcast “Calm Down with Erin and Charissa.”

I pretty much have hugged Rodgers since I started covering the NFL. He’s been a good friend of mine for the last 15 years,” Andrews said. “It was so funny because the people close to me in my life like my family or other quarterbacks I know or other players are like ‘Why is this a big deal?‘”, she added.

She also said that she loved when Pat McAfee joked around with Rodgers on the issue, “You two gotta stop hugging,” Pat had told Rodgers. “I loved when Aaron kinda said she’s my friend. It’s also like him mentioning that he hugs other guys, opposing players and I was like ‘yeah! I’m looked at like one of the guys!’” Erin stated.

Andrews went on to add that she has hugged a lot of top-level players and it never became an issue. “Sunday, I hadn’t seen Odell Beckham Jr. and he ran over by me and he looked so happy and I just said, ‘God I miss that smile,’ and he was like good to see you and gave me a hug. I gave Von Miller a hug because he did ‘Dancing With the Stars,’” she said.

She stated that a lot of people forget that presenters like her are with these players 18 weeks out of the year. “We see them all the time, we’re with them during the highs and lows of their career. I’m grateful for the access they’ve given me. I’ve got to tell you, for the first time, whether you want to call Rodgers a lightning rod for his stance on COVID, I don’t want to get into that — what I’m getting involved in is sports. I was pumped he broke Brett Favre’s Packers touchdown pass record.“

Erin went on to claim that when the hug became such a big issue, she realized that it was happening because she is a girl. “For the first time in my career I kind of thought, this was like a chick thing,” Andrews said. “They’re going after it because I’m a female. Now, maybe I have it wronged they’re just going after it because Aaron is a lightning rod right now but I will say this, no one has said anything when Greg Olsen and Georg Kittle tackled and hugged each other,” she claimed.
