Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair received the resident bad boy tag after injuring a few players because of mistimed tackles. It’s quite astonishing that Ladd McConkey managed to escape with his teeth intact.

On Saturday, the Texans faced the Los Angeles Chargers in the first playoff game. Midway through the fixture, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert hit his rookie wide receiver with a dime before he was brought down by Texans defensive back Derek Stingley Jr.

McConkey firmly held onto the ball even after hitting the turf hard. Cameras caught Azeez Al-Shaair throwing an air punch that nearly connected with McConkey’s face mask.

Football fans shocked to see serial troublemaker Azeez Al-Shaair allowed to play

The video clips circulating through X clearly show that Al-Shaair threw a punch close to McConkey’s headgear. Fortunately, the Chargers’ first-year receiver escaped without any bruises. Even Al-Shaair could have damaged his fist and wrist if the punch had connected.

Regardless, the play was dangerous but surprisingly the referee let the 27-year-old go without punishing him considering he was suspended for three games earlier in the season for putting Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence on concussion protocol after an ugly late tackle.

Even though the clips show Al-Shaair attempted a dangerous maneuver, was it really to hurt McConkey? Defensive players often use their fists to punch the ball out of the grasp of the receiver. The undrafted edge rusher appeared to use the same tactic to free the ball from the Chargers players’ grasp, but it was off-target.

If fans overlook the rash moment, Azeez Al-Shaair had a good game against the Chargers. He recorded 6 total tackles and three of them were tackles for loss.

Ladd McConkey had a stellar game with 9 receptions for 197 receiving yards and one touchdown. The Texans eventually edged out the Chargers 12-32 with Herbert throwing four interceptions.
