The NFL was sent into a frenzy when the Cleveland Browns signed a massive contract with quarterback Deshaun Watson. The 26-year old QB who was knee-deep in sexual allegations was found not guilty was a jury. But, people are still irked by the fact that the Browns signed the former Texans’ QB.

The Browns offered Watson $230 million in guaranteed money over the course of five years. Everyone in the NFL world is questioning the league for allowing this trade to happen due to Watson’s off-the-field unbecoming behavior.

“He’s proven next to nothing” – Skip Bayless didn’t understand the Browns move of guaranteed money to Deshaun Watson

“He’s proven next to nothing,” Skip Bayless said on Undisputed. “Will he be worth the risk of this? Well yeah. If he wins a Super Bowl. When you plunge like that, you better get a Super Bowl out of this. Because nobody’s plunged like this. You’ve guaranteed his money in a mold-shattering way. And it’s well beyond what they gave Aaron Rodgers and he at least has one Super Bowl.”

“The question is how many time is he going to miss? Because it’s not like you can miss eight games. I don’t believe even if he wins, maybe the people in Cleveland will become more accepting. But I don’t believe outside of that there will be any more accepting of Deshaun,” Shannon Sharpe added.

Deshaun Watson had a great rookie season as he took Houston to back-to-back division titles in 2018 and 2019. Still, he’s yet to prove himself as a QB that should receive such a fat contract. The Browns might have gained more than they bargained for because Deshaun still faces 22 civil lawsuits even though the criminal charges against him were dropped.

It’ll be interesting to see how Cleveland’s gamble plays out. Let’s hope the Browns don’t have the same record with Watson as they did with Baker Mayfield.
