After a stretch of back-to-back three home games, the Miami Dolphins (11-4) have to shake the cobwebs off by traveling to M&T Bank Stadium to take on the AFC’s top team, the Baltimore Ravens (12-3), on Sunday, December 31. It’s a game between two teams looking to grab the upper hand for the AFC #1 seed.

Both sides are coming off statement victories. The Ravens brushed off the challenge posed by the San Francisco 49ers, beating them 33-19. Quarterback Lamar Jackson cemented his place as the top candidate for the NFL MVP. Jackson completed 23 of 35 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Miami carved out an impressive 22-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa answered some of his critics by dropping 24 of 37 pass attempts for 293 yards and one touchdown. It will be an interesting battle between two teams that are dominant on both fronts.

Why can the Baltimore Ravens win?

First and foremost, the weather will play a big part in the game. The Dolphins hailing from the sunny south may find it difficult to cope with the chilly winds of Baltimore. The forecast has predicted that the temperature will be between 40 and 45 degrees on Sunday. This will give the Ravens players a slight edge over their opponents.

On the game front, the Ravens boast one of the best-rushing offenses in the league. That’s mostly due to Lamar Jackscon’s willingness to run at any opportunity. Jackson has 786 yards using his feet and five touchdowns. The Ravens run the ball a league-high 159.7 on average every game, scoring 24 touchdowns.

However, it’s the defense where John Harbaugh‘s men shine the most. They have only allowed five rushing touchdowns all season and have overall conceded just 22 TDs (the best in the league).

Why can the Miami Dolphins win?

It’s a battle of the unstoppable force vs. the immovable object in Baltimore. Mike McDaniel‘s Dolphins cover the most overall yards in the league at 411.5 and have scored 57 touchdowns (#1). Not only that, they have scored the most rushing touchdowns (26). Running back Raheem Mostert gets credit for 21 of those.

Tua Tagovailoa is right up there in the mix for the MVP title alongside Jackson. The 25-year-old has thrown for 4214 passing yards, making 26 touchdowns. Tyreek Hill may not be able to break the 2000-yard barrier, but he can easily be the difference-maker in this game. Hill missed crossing 100 yards by just 1 measly yard last game, but he leads the league with 1641 receiving yards and has scored 12 touchdowns.
