The race in the AFC East is very interesting, and it will get even more intriguing when the Buffalo Bills meet the New York Jets at Orchard Park on Sunday, November 19, at 4:25 p.m. on CBS. It will mark the first start for Joe Brady as the Bills offensive coordinator, who will look to pay the Jets back for their early-season defeat (22-16).
Both teams will go into the tie after losing last week’s games. The Bills went down narrowly at the hands of the Denver Broncos, while the Jets lost their fifth game of the season to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Buffalo is one of the most well-rounded teams in the NFL. They rank seventh in yards per game (370.1) and are eighth in points per game (26.2) this season. Their defense ranks 17th in opponent yards per game (330.6).
Unlike the Bills, the Jets offense has been the focal point of great scrutiny. Robert Saleh‘s team ranks 29th in yards per game (283.1) and 30th in points per game (16). However, it’s in defense that they shine the most. Gang Green is sixth in opponent yards per game (307.8).

Why can the Buffalo Bills win?
Despite the recent criticism of Josh Allen for leading the league with 11 interceptions, many forget that he also tops the NFL with 19 touchdowns in 2023. Bills recently against the Broncos don’t tell the entire story. Latavius Murray gained 68 yards and scored a TD after only carrying the ball nine times.
Historically, Allen has struggled against the Jets (he threw three picks on matchday one). But that doesn’t mean he can’t take on their defense, especially when it comes to using his legs (he has had 13 rushing touchdowns since 2022). It would be interesting to see whether Brady allows him to let loose.
However, to win the game, they need to bring Diggs into the frame more. The star receiver only had 34 yards against Denver. That’s not something any elite playmaker would want. More so because they will be up against it because it’s the Jets’ defense.
Why can the New York Jets win?
Earlier in the season, head coach Saleh said,
Through these first six weeks, we've played a gauntlet of quarterbacks. I know we haven't gotten all the wins, but we've embarrassed all of them.
That’s mostly because of the stingy defense spearheaded by sack leaders Bryce Huff and Jermaine Johnson (5).
C.J. Mosely is the top tackler with 96 hits. Not to mention Jordan Whitehead, who has four picks this season. However, it’s the offense that needs to improve.
Zach Wilson is in the bottom 10% of quarterbacks in the NFL in terms of touchdown completions (5). He has more interceptions (6) than TDs. There’s still hope, though. The 24-year-old is among 32 qualified quarterbacks (min. 100 dropbacks) and ranks 18th with a career-high adjusted completion percentage of 74.7%. In all honesty, it will be a battle of attrition in the chilly weather of Buffalo.
