The Kansas City Chiefs travel east to Boston to get back to winning ways after tasting two straight defeats and their fourth loss in six games. Andy Reid‘s team will face the New England Patriots, who are out of the playoffs despite beating the Pittsburgh Steelers, as it was only their third win of the season.
Bill Belichick and the Patriots would require the home-field advantage because only another upset like the Pittsburgh game can give them something to celebrate. Quarterback Bailey Zappe appears to have won the trust of Coach Belichick after completing 240 yards and three first-half touchdown passes en route to the victory.
The Chiefs game ended with a controversial offside call, which saw quarterback Patrick Mahomes lose his cool. Mahomes wasn’t happy with the officiating, and the 28-year-old criticized them for chalking off one of the best plays he had ever seen. Even though he later apologized for his in-the-moment remarks, the NFL committee has decided to penalize the reigning MVP.

Why can the New England Patriots win?
Last week’s win against the Steelers snapped a 5-game losing streak for the Patriots. It was their longest span of games without a win since Belichick’s men lost four back-to-back in 2020. Zappe was the main star of the show, as Mac Jones seemed to have fallen out of favor.
Wide receiver JuJu Smith Schuster would want Zappe to keep throwing him like last time when he gained 90 yards. But all eyes will once again be on Ezekiel Elliott. The dynamic running back had the best game of the 2023 season, carrying the ball 22 times and securing 68 yards. Through the air, he caught seven balls for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Why can the Kansas City Chiefs win?
The Kansas City Chiefs are in a rare slump. That’s mostly down to the number of turnovers (33) and fumbles Andy Reid’s team has conceded this season. Whether Mahomes agrees or not, their skill players are dropping catches, and it has cost them games.
Kansas has already lost more games this season than they did the entire last season, in which they won the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, they will miss two key players. Offensive lineman Donovan Smith (neck) and running back Isiah Pacheco are out of Sunday night’s fixture. However, if things fall in place for the team, the Patriots are the ideal opponent to get back onto the winning path.
