“He’s the issue”: Chris Broussard feels Nick Saban’s dominance of college football is not good for the sport

Georgia Bulldogs have their redemption. Georgia defeated Alabama Crimson Tide in the CFP National Championship game. Georgia crushed Alabama 33-18 on Monday, 11 January. The Bulldogs took revenge against Alabama for defeating them in the SEC Championship game.
Bulldogs QB Stetson Bennett ended Georgia’s 41-year CFP Championship drought. Georgia had won their last National Championship in 1980 after defeating Alabama. Yesterday’s match also marks Georgia first in against Alabama since 2007.
Georgia QB Stetson Bennett creates history
Georgia’s quarterback Stetson Bennett has been on a wild journey his entire college career. In 2017, Bennett was a walk-on QB at the University of Georgia. The very next year, he transferred to Jones County College where he did not last long. He returned to Georgia in 2019 as the backup quarterback to Jake Fromm. Bennett was still a backup QB in 2020 to J.T. Daniels. He finally earned his place as the starting QB for Georgia in the year 2021. Bennett proved his worth by playing exceptionally both his years and finally won his team the National Championship.
Analyst Chris Broussard was all praises for Stetson Bennett on winning the Championship. “I like seeing a walk-on outplay the Heisman Trophy winner”, said Broussard on First Things First. “He did not make the mistakes in the end that Bryce Young did make. I also thought that the best team won and that’s one of the great things we are getting now with the playoff versus these mythical college championships we’ve always had in college football. Georgia all year long was the better team.”
Chris Broussard feels that Nick Saban’s dominance has stretched out for too long
Broussard said, “Nick Saban’s dominance to college football hasn’t been great for the game.” He said that this is not a criticism but rather a testament to Nick Saban’s greatness. “He’s the issue.” Broussard said that legendary coaches who become institutions to some degree are great for the game. However, Nick Saban’s dominance has been strected over a long period of time. Nick Saban has been the head football coach at Alabama since 2007.
“Saban has won 6 championships in 12 years at Alabama”, said Broussard. “It’s just too much and again credit to him, but it’s not good for the sport when he has created an atmosphere of feelings that I’ve not really seen before him in college football.” Broussard said that Saban’s dominance has created an unfair atmosphere in college football where other teams can’t defeat Alabama. “It’s Nick Saban, it’s Alabama and everybody else and that’s not good for the game”, concluded Broussard.
