The Miami Dolphins‘ head coach, Mike McDaniel is an interesting human being. Since joining the Dolphins in 2022, McDaniel has been fantastic as the team’s head coach. He has a record of 17-11 so far with the Dolphins and has the team in contention to win the Super Bowl this year. McDaniel has also provided some hilarious moments along the way.
During the Dolphins’ recent game against the New York Jets on Friday, the announcers, Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit shared a funny story about how McDaniel met his wife, Katie Hemstalk. The NFL‘s official Twitter account posted the video of Michael telling the story and captioned it, “The story of how Mike McDaniel met his wife is too funny” with a laughing emoji.
The story dates back to 2010. McDaniel was the running backs coach for the United Football League’s Sacramento Mountain Lions when they went out to celebrate a win over Omaha. Here’s what happened in the club:
One of the running backs that he coaches is dancing with a girl, and Mike says, 'Listen, you're not dancing with her anymore or you're not playing with his team next year. So the guy says, 'What can I do?'
Michaels said on the broadcast:
So then McDaniel starts dancing with her. That's the beginning of the story. Four years later, they're married. Katie, that's how he met her.
McDaniel worked his charm on his now wife and the couple have been together ever since. They got married in 2014 and have a daughter together. The Dolphins’ head coach quickly climbed the NFL coaching ladder and is now leading the Dolphins to a special season.
Mike McDaniel talked about the trajectory of the Dolphins’ defense
The Miami Dolphins are 8-3 this season. They have been one of the best teams this year, mostly due to their exciting offense. However, the Dolphins’ defense has gone under the radar and has been improving week after week. Their HC Mike McDaniel was asked about the trajectory of the Dolphins’ defense after their win over the New York Jets on Friday.

McDaniel said:
I think our defense was kind of overlooked for a while. I think since Week 8 up until this game, we had been number one in the league in defense stopping the run, and I think that epitomizes the whole team. This has been hard work and dedication each week, belief in what they’re being coached, and complete ownership of responsibilities.
The Dolphins have been a great defensive unit since their week 4 game against the Buffalo Bills. Teams have averaged under 20 points per game against the Dolphins in their last seven games. They will hope to continue this form in their next game against the Washington Commanders.
