The American football team, Cincinnati Bengals was founded in 1967 by Paul Brown, now owned by his son Mike Brown. As they entered the sport, they joined the American Football League (AFL), a year later in 1968. The franchise remained a member of the AFL for two seasons until it merged with the NFL in 1970. The Bengals had a remarkable debut in the NFL as they marked their first winning and earned themselves a spot in the playoffs as the champion of AFC Central. After signing second-year quarterback Ken Anderson, the Bengals’ offense became stronger and they went on to have two more playoff appearances in the ’70s, but couldn’t score the win on any of them.
As the 80s came, the Bengals made one of the most important personnel moves by drafting tackle Anthony Muñoz, who is counted among the greatest offensive linemen in history. With Muñoz’s as the Bengals’ line, they claimed victory over the conference-best 12 regular season games, leading to their first-ever postseason wins twice and making it to the Super Bowl XVI.
