Green Bay Packers (via ACME Packing Company)
The American football team, Green Bay Packers is counted among the most-storied franchises in history. The team has won a total of 13 championships, which is the highest count across the NFL teams. The story of the Packers’ formation is quite interesting, which started in 1919.
Curly Lambeau, who was a shipping clerk for the Indian Packing Company convinced his employer to contribute some money for the uniforms for the group, that he formed alongside George Calhoun. These two gathered men who were interested in football and with them, claimed a winning record against other amateur teams based in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. In the process, Lambeau nicknamed the team as “Packers.“

Under Lambeau as head coach, the Packers entered the newly formed American Professional Football Association in 1921, which later became the NFL. However, initially, the team faced many financial crises, to the extent that they had to renounce a whole season.
In 1923, the franchise became a non-profit corporation, run entirely by the people of Wisconsin, and remained as such, to date. The financial struggles didn’t stop the team from performing on the field, as they won three consecutive championships from 1929 to 1931. With a strong roster of tackle Cal Hubbard, guard Mike Michalske, and halfback John McNally, who went on to become Hall of Famers, the Packers included Don Hutson in 1935.

After Lambeau’s retirement, the Packers struggled a lot and they finally succeeded in the 1960s, under head coach Vince Lombardi. Then-roster also included many future Hall of Famers on offense and defense, such as quarterback Bart Starr, fullback Jim Taylor, Paul Hornung, linebacker Ray Nitschke, and many more. After winning many championships, the Packers claimed the first-ever Super Bowl trophy, in its inaugural year in 1967, after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs.
Just like that, they won the second Super Bowl as well, in 1968 defeating the Oakland Raiders. Then Lombardi retired, and again the Packers fell into a long futility period. They barely made two playoff appearances, in 1968 and 1992.
The Packers are known to be one of the most successful NFL teams to date, holding the highest count of NFL championships. The franchise has won four Super Bowl trophies so far and has the highest playoff appearances besides the Dallas Cowboys.
