Another Florida-based football team, the Jacksonville Jaguars has quite a rollercoaster journey to success. It’s a part of the American Football Conference (AFC), founded in 1995 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Unlike other NFL teams, the Jaguars experienced early success by qualifying for the playoffs. It was all because of the team’s first college draft pick Tony Boselli, who went on to become an All-Pro tackle. He led the Jaguars to establish as a winning franchise with a productive offense. In their inaugural season, the Jaguars recorded 9-7 and secured a spot in the AFC playoffs, led by the standout performance of quarterback Mark Brunell and wide receiver Jimmy Smith. However, they fell short against the New England Patriots in the AFC championship.
The next year, in 1997, the Jaguars again qualified for the playoffs. Shortly after that, the team added running back Fred Taylor to form a dynamic offense in 1998, that worked well for them and they won their first divisional title.
However, the franchise’s success graph went downhill pretty quickly as the 21st century began. From 2000 to 2003, the Jaguars couldn’t win more than seven games a season. They returned to the postseason in 2005 and 2007 but were outplayed by the New England Patriots, both times.
As the years passed by, the Jaguars became worse, to the extent that they were registered as an NFL-worst 2-14 record in 2012. The following year, the franchise started missing out on one regular-season home game, in order to host it in London, so as to gain international appeal for the team.
Although they built up a large fan base abroad, it didn’t improve their performance on the field. As a result, the Jaguars experienced franchise-worst records back-to-back for six seasons as they suffered double-digit losses till 2016. The next year, the team built a young star-studded defense that led them to a 10-win season along with a divisional title in their hand.
With all the ups and downs, the Jaguars have not reached the Super Bowl ever. In fact, they are part of 13 NFL teams who have never won the Super Bowl trophy. Neither do they have any Super Bowl appearances.
How many Super Bowls do the Jacksonville Jaguars have?
The Jacksonville Jaguars have never been able to secure a victory in the Super Bowl, as they haven’t reached that level. Once they were close to securing a spot in the Super Bowl back in the 2017-18 AFC championship. At that last moment, the referee called a play dead that could have made them the championships by reversing the score. However, the Patriots made a good comeback and made another appearance in Super Bowl LII against the Rams.
Throughout their history of around three decades, the Jaguars have neither won any Super Bowl nor appeared in one. But that doesn’t mean they haven’t achieved success in any way. The team has won divisional championships and playoff berths. And based on the Jaguars’ revitalization in recent years, it might be possible for them in the near future.
