NFL is naturally a violent sport. Plenty of scary injuries have happened on the football field. Just last season, the Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during the game after a rough collision with the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins.

Many such injuries have happened throughout the history of football. Although all the players are at risk of injuries on the field, the quarterbacks get hit a lot compared to other positions. Despite having an offensive line consisting of 5 players (sometimes more than five), the QBs do get tackled a lot which might sometimes result in gruesome injuries.

In the 2022 season, the Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered multiple head injuries and possibly three concussions in just one season. To prevent such things from happening a lot in the future, the NFL and the NFLPA have reportedly approved the newly designed QB-specific helmets that supposedly will prevent possible concussions in the future.

According to multiple reports, the new QB helmet designed by Vicis performed 7 percent better than the old helmets used by the QBs in the 2022 season. Furthermore, Vicis executive Jason Neubauer claims that their new helmets will absorb impact from any angle.

“The unique thing is that it has a deformal outer shell, which means when you take an impact in any location on that helmet, it will deform or basically dent in that location to absorb the impact,” Vicis executive Jason Neubauer said.

Moreover, NFL executive Jeff Miller said that so far seven helmets have been banned from the despite being highly recommended three years ago after testing. But they will continue to work along with players since there are new better products in the market every year.

“Hopefully we can continue to stimulate that either with position-specific helmets designed for each position group or for a general all-purpose helmet to be able to say to players: ‘Work with us, be willing to change helmets because better and better products are coming online every year,” said Miller.

The NFL signal-callers will reportedly use the newly designed QB helmets in the 2023 season. Besides, the league and NFLPA will continue to improve their gear to improve protection for the players.
