After an interesting Wild Card round of the playoffs, the matchups for the Divisional Round are set. The first of the games will be between the AFC’s number one seed, the Baltimore Ravens, and the upstart Houston Texans. The Ravens finished the regular season with the league’s best record of 13-4, whereas the Texans won their division with a 10-7 record.

Baltimore came into the season as one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. They started their season with a commanding win over the Texans and built on that throughout the season. Their QB Lamar Jackson ended up as the frontrunner to win his second MVP award and the Ravens established themselves as the best team in the league by the end of the regular season.

The Texans on the other hand came into the season with a lot of unknowns. They had a rookie head coach and a first-year quarterback leading the way. DeMeco Ryans and CJ Stroud created the mayhem during the season and led the Texans to a division title. Stroud is almost certainly the Offensive Rookie of the Year and Ryans is one of the favorites to win the Coach of the Year award.

Both these teams played each other back in week 1. The Ravens bulldozed the Texans to a dominant 25-9 victory. However, the Texans are 17 games wiser and more experienced and will pose a bigger threat in the Divisional matchup. Baltimore will enter the game as favorites, but the Texans will create havoc on Saturday, as they have done throughout the season.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans Predicted Lineup

Eight players were listed as injured on the Baltimore Ravens’ Tuesday injury report. The two most concerning are rookie receiver Zay Flowers, who was limited by a calf injury that put him on the injury report late in the regular season, and cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who missed practice due to the same injury.

Following their 45-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the Houston Texans have been plagued by injuries. In the victory, receiver Noah Brown sustained a shoulder injury that forced him to the injured reserve, thus ending his season.

Houston placed Brown on injured reserve on Wednesday and added Damiere Byrd to its practice squad. Given that Brown is out and fellow receivers Robert Woods (hip) and John Metchie III (foot) are limited on Tuesday, Byrd is likely to be upgraded against the Ravens.

Why the Baltimore Ravens can win?

Being one of the best teams this season on both sides of the football pitch, the Baltimore Ravens deserved to be ranked as the top seed. The Ravens ranked first in rushing (156.5 yards), fourth in scoring (28.4 points), and sixth in total offense (370.4 yards) among NFL teams.

In addition to ranking third in interceptions (18), the team led the league in points allowed (16.5), sacks (60), and takeaways (31), and finished sixth in total defense (301.4 yards) and passing defense (191.9).

Lamar Jackson, the quarterback, led the Ravens’ ground attack with 821 yards, followed closely by Gus Edwards, who had a career-high 810. The 28-year-old Edwards finished with 13 touchdown runs, doubling his career total and placing him eighth in the NFL, after only managing one in his first six games of the current season.

Why the Houston Texans can win?

Along with the 2008 Ravens and 2009 New York Jets, the Houston Texans became just the third team since 1950 to win a postseason game with a rookie head coach and quarterback.

C.J. Stroud, the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, became the youngest quarterback in league history to win a playoff game last week against Cleveland after throwing for 274 yards and three touchdowns (22 years, 102 days).

With an average of 245.5 yards per game, the Texans’ passing offense ranked seventh in the league this season, making them among the best in the league. With eight touchdown catches and 1,297 receiving yards, wide receiver Nico Collins tied for eighth place in the NFL, both career highs.
